LESSONS FROM BHAGAVAD GITA – 37 As taught by Parama Pujya Sri Swamiji Compiled by: Swami Dattananda Bhakti Mala, December 1995 The man of realization works with full equanimity in success and failure. His ideal is that he should work for the sake of work. He is unconcerned with the results. The work itself is its own reward, and as such, he is not bound by the law of action and reaction. By following this way, everyone can help oneself to come out of the clutches of the law of karma. The sage of realization takes care of his body, not due to his attachment for it, but because it is through that body that he can perform action aimed at the welfare of the world and it is through that body he has to uplift other souls living in other bodies. Unconcerned about reward or punishment and success and failure, he goes on performing his work ceaselessly. “Devoid of attachment, liberated, with mind established in knowledge, performing work in the spirit of sacrifice, (yagna,) his whole action dissolves away” (Chapter 4, Verse 23). The self-realized sage undertakes and performs a work without any attachment to its fruits. His mind is established in the true knowledge of the Supreme. His only aim is the welfare of the world and he works only with that motive. So all his works are like sacrifices, (yagna,) or free offerings to the world. And because of the principle of sacrifice involved in his work, all his actions are equal to no actions in the matter of creating reactions. This is the meaning of the sentence of all his action dissolves away. To be able to follow this statement, it is necessary to understand what these sacrifices are, and that is what the following verses say. Health - Feel better, live better http://health.
