LESSONS FROM BHAGAVAD GITA – 37

As taught by Parama Pujya Sri Swamiji

“The process of sacrificial offering is Brahman, the

oblation (clarified butter) is Brahman, offered by

Brahman in the fire of Brahman. Brahman alone is the

goal to be reached by him who concentrates on the act

that is Brahman.”

The whole world and every creature and object in it is

of the essence of Brahman, that is, the Atman or the

Self. To be able to see the world thus is true

knowledge.

If one is of the nature of Brahman, that is, the Self,

so is another too of the nature of the Self.

Therefore, if one were a servant of another, it would

then mean that one is one’s own servant. In the same

way, when a man works for the well being of others, he

works for the well being of his own Self. The man who

sees Brahman everywhere will not entertain any ideas

such as “I am great and he is not. He is different

from me.” In this stage, favor done to others is

favor done to one’s own Self.

To such a great sage, everything is Brahman. He does

not look upon the sacrifice that he does, the

sacrificer, which is himself, the things that are

sacrificed, the hymns that are chanted and the goal to

be attained by the sacrifice as different from each

other. To him everything is Brahman. And therefore,

performance of action to him is the same as

action-free life.
