Guest guest
Jaya Guru Datta, Here is today's saying: “These terms (Shravana-Manana-Nididhyasa) are frequently used in Vedanta. We have understood what 'Shravana' is. We have also understood that Shravana removes the doubt - 'does Atma exist?' Manana means enquiry. Shravana gives some knowledge. This knowledge has to be subjected to constant revision by Yukti-Pratiyukti (arguments and counter-arguments). For this purpose, the scriptures have described six different methods of arguments (Shadvidha linga). We will learn about them in future lessons. to engage in these six types of arguments to verify the correctness of the knowledge acquired by Shravana is called as Manana. Manana removes ‘Asambhavana' (the difficulty of comprehending). Not being able to comprehend the truth even though it is very much there is called 'Asambhavana'. It does not stop there. It imposes something else on it and makes us believe that it is real. This is Vipareeta Bhaavana. Not realizing (in dim light that the object is only a rope is Asambhavana. To assume that it is a snake is 'Vipareeta Bhaavana' (perverse assumption)."
