LESSONS FROM BHAGAVAD GITA – 48 As taught by Parama Pujya Sri Swamiji Compiled by: Swami Dattananda Bhakti Mala, December 1996 “He who does actions giving up attachment, dedicating them to Brahman is not stained by sin, as a lotus leaf is by water.” The technique of performing actions without creating reactions is explained in this verse. There are only two conditions for this. First, one has to perform actions abandoning the attachment to its fruit. And second, one has to dedicate all actions to Brahman. Any action that a man performs for his own selfish enjoyment of pleasure will cause reactions to arise that will bind him in the form of consequences, whether good or bad. On the other hand, he who does actions without getting attached to its fruit, which he dedicates to Brahman, is not bound. Dedicating action to Brahman means to put in one’s effort for the good of the humanity and the world. Therefore, one has to work surrendering all actions to God without attachment to their fruits, even to the fruit of liberation. He should think in these lives, “I am working for God as a servant does everything for his master.” Such a person never gets polluted by sin just as a lotus leaf is not polluted by water.
