Guest guest
Some information found on interesting properties of the water of the river Ganga: Dr. F.C. Harrison of McGill University, Canada, writes: “A peculiar fact, which has never been satisfactorily explained, is the quick death (in three or five hours) of the cholera vibrio in the waters of Ganga. When one remembers sewage, by numerous corpses of natives (often dead of cholera) and by the bathing of thousands of natives, it seems remarkable that the belief of the Hindus, that the water of this river is pure and cannot be defiled, and that they can safely drink it and bathe in it, should be confirmed by means of modern bacteriological research.” A well-known French physician Dr. D. Herelle, made similar investigations into the mystery of the Ganga. He observed some of the floating corpses of men dead of dysentery and cholera and was surprised to find that only a few feet below the bodies, where one would expect to find millions of these dysentery and cholera germs, there were no germs at all. He then grew germs from patients having the disease and to these cultures added water from the Ganga. When he incubated the mixture for a period, much to his surprise, the germs were completely destroyed. A British physician Dr. C.E. Nelson, F.R.C.S. tells us of another striking fact. He says: “Ships leaving Calcutta for England take their water from the Hugli river which is one of the mouths of the filthy Ganga and this Ganga water will remain fresh all the way to England. On the other hand, ships leaving England for India, find that the water they take on in London will not stay fresh till they reach Bombay, the nearest Indian port, which is a week closer to England than Calcutta. They must replenish their water supply at Port Said, Suez or at Aden on the Red Sea. It is no wonder that the Indian people should hold that the Ganga is very sacred and possessed of mysterious powers.” Jai Guru Datta!! ______________________________ The centipede was happy quite until a bird said, in fun, "Which foot goes after which?" Guest guest
Dear friends, I want to confirm the statement that River Ganga has got some very special qualities. Holy Ganga is not only the purest water but is also giving many blessings on the personal level. For many years my friend Manoj and myself were running a tent resort north of Rishikesh, directly on a wonderful white beach of the pristine Ganga in the Himalayas. We conducted Yoga camps as well as white water rafting. A few years ago I stayed at this place all alone for a few days. In my baggage I had a Crystal Shiva Lingam from our beloved Sri Swamiji. The Lingam originated from a Shivaratri Agnipuja , performed by His Holiness. Sri Swamiji told me that to carry this Lingam is a big responsibility. The little story I want to share with you actually started in Chennai. After Shivaratri, I forgot the year, I visited my friend and Gurubhai Krishnapillai in Chennai. His youngest daughter had a dream of Lord Shiva who appeared out of a crystal Linga to her.Lord Shiva told her that he had arrived in her house and soon will go to the Himalayas.I did not tell anything about this Shiva Lingam I had with me. Anyway, the next day Krishnapillai asked me where I would go next. I told him that I was about to leave for Rishikesh and the Himalayas. Then he was very surprised and told me the dream of his daughter. I took it easy and did not further think about it and also what Sri Swamiji said about the Lingam. When I arrived in Rishikesh I became restless and found out that the Lingam was very hot.So I thought I have to do abishekam very soon. Directly after arriving in our camp I went into Ganga with the Lingam. Before starting the Abishekham I started to chant Datta Stavam, holding the Lingam in both hands just above the surface of the water. The river was gently and calmly flowing. Suddenly out of nothing the water changed into waves and splashed over the Lingam.I was very moved, there was a powerful sensation in my body. There was an ususual inner joy wich lastet for a very long time.I realised that both Ganga Mata and Lord Shiva were very alive and have an intimate relationship. I used to meditate daily at this spot. One day, during meditation I felt the urge to open my eyes. First I tried to resist but then I opened the eyes and saw a snake just 2 meters before me standing in the Ganga.I stared at the snake for a long time and did not know what to do.After some time it disappeared. The next day I went to the same spot and started my daily routine. The same thing happened again.I had to open my eyes and there was this snake. This happened for 3 days in a row and I felt very happy but did not know what to think about it. Later I told Sri Swamiji about the incident. Appaji smiled and said:" you are very lucky, you had the darshan of Lord Shiva." Eversince I carried the Shivalingam to so many holy places and performed abishekam. The most powerful experiences I had at Manasarovar, Gomukh,Gangotri and Chandratal. I have attached a picture attached to this mail. The Lingam on the bottom of Chandratal lake.Hopefully it is possible to send pictures within our list, let?s see, Jai Guru Datta, Agastya Agastya Seikritt [agastya] Friday, December 27, 2002 12:08 PM jaigurudatta RE: interesting facts about the river Ganga Jai Guru Datta Latest News and Additions http://www.dattapeetham.com/additions/new.html Upcomming events at Datta Temple and Hall of Trinity, Baton Rouge, LA http://www.dattatemple.com/uevents.htm Post message: JAIGURUDATTA Subscribe: JAIGURUDATTA- Un: JAIGURUDATTA Your use of is subject to
