The Dance of Shiva...

The flood of nineteen-twenty-four

Was horrible in Rishikesh

It carried away many Mahatmas and Sadhus

This is the dance of Siva.

The impetuous Chandrabhaga

Turned its course in 1943

People crossed it with difficulty

With the help of elephant

This is the dance of Siva.

In the morning of eleventh January 1945

There was fall of snow

On the surrounding Himalayas

The chill was terrible

This is the dance of Siva.

Lord Visvanath dwells now

In a place where there was forest.

He pleases the whole world.

He bestows health and long life.

This is the dance of Siva.

Forests become Ashrams,

Islands become an ocean,

Ocean becomes an island,

Cities become deserts,

This is the dance of Siva.

Siva gazes His Sakti

Then there is the atomic dance

There is the dance of Prakriti

Lord Siva merely witnesses

This is the dance of Siva.

Then Prana vibrates, mind moves,

Senses function, Buddhi operates,

Heart pumps, lungs breathe,

Stomach digests, intestines excrete,

This is the dance of Siva.

This is a world of change

A changing thing is perishable

Know the Imperishable

Which is changeless

And become Immortal.

The centipede was happy quite

until a bird said, in fun,

"Which foot goes after which?"

This raised his mind to such a pitch

he lay distracted in a ditch

considering how to run.
