Guest guest
Jai Gurudeva Datta, dear Datta familymembers, in the most recent speech of Sri Swamiji there was mention of Saaligraama or Shaligram. For those who dont know what this and for who is interessted ive pasted some readings ..please enjoy ....Sri Guru Datta, Win .... .... (Quote Sri Sri Swamiji)"Next question – Is Saaligraama Puja helpful? I will give the answer in the evening Satsang. Bhakti Mala – The Ashrama news magazine contains many of such answers to everyday questions. I just joked. I will speak on Saaligraama now. ...Saaligraama is available in Gandaki River only. It is said that a great saint by name Brinda reached the feet of Lord Krishna as a Saaligraama. There is a special inspect which constantly sounds OM, Jeem and it is inside. Many of the Saaligraama have small quantity of Gold inside. The insect has taken that form after thousands of years. The insect living in that black stone constantly sounds the Beejaakshara and fills it with great vibrations. ...As usual there are fake Saaligraamaas. Recently there is a spurt in the availability of Saaligraama with water body inside. A true Saaligraama test is – Place the Saaligraama between two copper plates. When chanted Mantras, the Saaligraama turns. The insect long dead inside would have created a Chakrani inside. The energy of that insects Beejaakshara chanting would have beneficial effects. ...There are several ways to detect and classify the type and nature of a Saaligraama There are Vishnu, Narasimha, Ambika, Shiva and other types of Saaligramas. Saaligraama immersed in a copper cup with water for one night and drinking the same too has benefits." http://www.dattapeetham.com/india/tours/datta_kshetra_yatra/nellore/hh_speech_30\ Jan03.html .... .... Picture of Shaligram: http://www.rudraksha-ratna.com/htm/latest/shaligram(L).jpg .... .... ORIGIN OF SHALIGRAM...According to the Puranas once a fierce battle broke out between Lord Shiva and the demon Jallundhara. They both appeared equally matched with no one ready to lose, and hence the battle continued for a long time. In fact it was not like an ordinary battle between the gods and the demons, but it was a match between the chastities of two chaste women Parvati and Vrinda. Lord Shiva knew it well, that unless the chastity of Vrinda, the wife of Jallundhara, was spoiled, Jallundhara could not be killed. But it was against the nature of gods, they could not spoil the chastity of a chaste woman, Hence despite knowing everything, the gods were helpless, but for Jallundhara, nothing was a taboo. So thinking, that spoiling the chastity of Parvati, he could defeat Lord Shiva, Jallundhara reached Parvati in the guise of Lord Shiva. But Parvati, who is herself the supreme ruler of illusion (MAYA) knew by her virtues the craftiness of Jallundhara. She at once ended his guise and signalled Lord Krishna (Vishnu) that it was now just to spoil the chastity of Jallundhara's wife, Vrinda, and it will not be a sin . So, Lord Krishna approached Vrinda in the guise of Jallundhana. Vrinda could not understand the craftiness, and because of intimate presence her chastity got spoiled. Later on when Vrinda came to know the reality, she got infuriated and cursed Lord Krishna - O Lord, despite being a learned God you have behaved like stupids. So go and turn into shapeless black stone. Thus by the curse of a chaste woman Lord Krishna turned into a blackstone. But later on Vrinda felt guilty that at the surge of excitement she had cursed none other than her own tutelary deity. Thus begging pardon of God, she sought a boon that from that moment onward, God will be worshipped in the same stone form. Saying Tathastu, God accepted her curse and turned into a black stone, and came to be known as Shaligrama. As Shaligram, idol of God is found in innumerable numbers on the bed of the river Gandaki (Gandaka) these Shaligramas are same in size to an areca nut and also round in shape. ORIGIN OF TULSI (BASIL)... Having cursed by Vrinda, Lord Vishnu cursed her back that as she had cursed him to become a black stone, So I curse you to become a tree. In tree form also you will be known as Tulsi and without your worship, mine worship will not be complete. Since then formal worship of Shaligrama began, and Tulsi leaves are specifically offered on it to complete the worship. NEED TO TAKE CHARANAMRITA... When the idols of deities are given bath, the water remained after it is collected. This water is known as Charanamrita. Charanamrita collected from the bath of Shaligrama has far more significance than Charananmrita of any other deity. Idol of a deity is given a bath amidst the chanting of Vedic hymns. Hence the Charanamrita collected after the bath contains full effects of these hymns. Besides, it also touches the idol and basil leaves, Thus taking their virtues as well. Hence it has the power to destroy the three Doshas. At the same time it has the virtue to take away untimely death also. But to take maximum benefit, Charanamrita must be taken with the following hymn. ....AKALA MRITYU HARANAM SARVAVYADHIVINASHANAM| DEVA POODAKAM TIRTHAM JATHARE DHARYAMAHAM||... ....Meaning : To prevent untimely death and cure all types of disease, I put the Charanamrita that is like a pilgrimage place in my belly. Thus virtues of the places of Pilgrimage ar also present in God's Charanamrita. Hence, taking Charanamrita one gets the charity of performing pilgrimage and bathing in holy rivers also. ... var nsstyle='display:""'if (document.layers)var scrolldoc=document.scroll1.document.scroll2function up(){if (!document.layers) returnif (scrolldoc.top=scrolldoc.document.height*-1)scrolldoc.top-=10temp=setTimeout("do\ wn()",50)}function clearup(){if (window.temp2)clearInterval(temp2)}function cleardown(){if (window.temp)clearInterval(temp)}... .... SHREE SHALIGRAM... Believers in the Hindu Religion and God, worship Shree Shaligram with full faith because it is regarded as the symbol of Lord Vishnu. Shaligram (fossil) is found in Gandaki River at Muktinaath in Nepal. It is said in the Hindu Mythology that only the drinking of the charanamrit, obtained from bathing the Shree Shaligram with the mixture of the Ganga water, curd, milk ghee and honey with the Tulsi leaves removes the sinful and maligned mentality of the person. Without taking this charanamrit, the worship of Lord Vishnu (Satyanarayan Puja on a full moon day ) is incomplete. ...The sign of Vishnu chakra is found on Shaligram. The chakra is seen clearly on the Shaligram which opens by itself. In, Shaligram which are closed, there are small holes which make us realize that there is chakra in it. ...According to Shiva Puran the reasons of chakra's existence in it, is that once upon a time Brinda cursed Lord Vishnu that he turn into a black stone and that worms would bite him. Therefore a worm takes birth in Shaligram and bites it in circular form. It contains very little gold in it, which is lost in it. It is a surprise in itself. ...By worshipping Shaligram the man gets pleasure, comfort, prosperity and honour. The man who worships it gets salvation. ...Shaligram is never put instantly at place of worship after purchasing it. Worshipping of Shaligram becomes more important if somebody else presents it to the worshipper. It a newly wedded couple worships the Shaligram presented by someone else, their marital life would be happy and prosperous. ....Special Note :- The worshipper of Shaligram must keep the leaves of Tulsi beside a Shaligram or it must be put in the pot in which grows the Tulsi plant because Shaligram without Tulsi is regarded incomplete, as described in scriptures. http://www.rudraksha-ratna.com/htm/shree_shaligram.htm Mail Plus - Powerful.
