Guest guest
Sri Swamiji in Austria, p.74 "If you tell people about Swamiji, sometimes they can´t believe you. The music can help you. Music is no religion. There are no hindrances, no barricades. You can give some music cassettes or some books to your friends and then talk about Swamiji. That is a good seva, a good service. So if you go back to your family and to your friends and if you tell them about Swamiji, it may be that they get irritated. They can´t believe you. Some people are very happy to hear about Swamiji, and others are very irritated. And some people get jealous, because they have a possisive nature. They think: 'Oh, he will go with Swamiji, he will not attend me any more.' They are thinking like that. But that is wrong. Because if you get in touch with Swamiji, He will give good strength to your family. He will not bring separation. Probably some people have made bad experiences with other associations. The Swamiji association is not like that. Swamiji is giving lessons for good understanding and good affection to your family. That possessive nature is not good....In their inner mind your family members and your friends are searching for what you tell them about Swamiji. Only in the outer mind they are jealous and they don´t agree. ...Their inner side is searching like yours. So tell them about Swamiji." I have given CDs as presents to relatives and friends, but haven´t given any books so far. and I talk about Swamiji only if I feel the setting is appropriate and the person might be interested. If nevertheless the person doesn´t seem to be interested, I am trying not to repeat talking about Swamiji to him/her. Guest guest
the reaction in general (as for giving CDs and talking about Swamiji to family and friends in proper setting) was about 75 % positive(were interested, liked the music), but I haven´t talked to any non devotee about the Hanuman Murti in particular. Have found out that for me it is best to talk about those aspects of Sri Swamiji I am most enthusiastic about myself. (not necessarily personal experiences, but rather certain aspects of Swamiji´s teachings. telling about personal experiences might in some cases confuse others, make them jealous, take away energy from yourself etc) So if you are very enthusiastic about Hanuman, and especially if Hanuman is your istha devata (favorite deity), then why not talk about Hanuman?
