One who can see through the past lives of people alone is such a competent person - say the wise. While selecting candidates for responsible posts, the hiring body calls for a police report about the candidate. 'There are certificates to prove his educational qualifications; there is the process of 'interviewing' to get a first hand impression about the intellectual worth of the candidate. Where is the need for a certificate from the police?' - object some people. It is certainly necessary. To have a comprehensive understanding of a person, his present life and credentials are not enough. One will have to dig into his past life. A judge, while passing a punishment order, will scan through the earlier years of the convict. If his earlier life was 'clean' and if this was his first crime, the order will be different. If on the other hand, the person is a hardcore criminal, the order will be substantially different. This is one aspect. Also, in order to come to the conclusion whether the person is really a criminal or not, his past history will need to be looked into. this is another aspect. In the first instance above, the past is looked into to verify whether the person seemingly innocent now is innocent or not. In the second instance, the past is looked into to verify whether the person presently 'guilty' is actually guilty or not. Thus, in order to understand whether a person is innocent or guilty, it is not enough to just consider his present personality. One will have to consider the past, too. How far back should one go? Two factors should be considered here. How important is the post for which his candidature is being considered. This is one factor. The second factor is the capability of the person who sets out ot investigate. The second factor is stronger. Let us assume that the post that needs to be filled is that of a secret service agent. In such cases, the candidate´s past life will be studied in detail - both personal life and professional life. they even study the life of his immediate relatives and family members. The investigation ends here. Let us assume that a wealthy person is looking for a personal bodyguard. Even he will be interested in knowing about the would-be bodyguard in the same depth. But he may not be having the resources to carry out such an in-depth investigation. He will then have to be content with whatever investigation is actually posssible. In both the above situations, investigation comes to a halt because of lack of further resources (in other words, because of the limitations of the investigating agency.) Let us assume that a person has additional resources -for e.g an ability to go beyond the present life and 'see' what happened in the previous life. then this investigating person will be armed with additional information, and therefore his opinion will not only be different, but will also be more accurate and clear. Usually, most people divide themselves into two layers. One layer pertains to their personal life, while the other is their professional life. In many people these are two distinct layers. However, according to spiritually accomplished persons, there is another layer also. That is the layer of Samskaras. Samskara means the basket of thought processes and preferences that have followed the person from previous lives. This powerful layer can influence not only the personal and professional layers, but can also shape the spiritual life of that person. However, a spiritually accomplished person doesn´t consider these three layers to be independant layers. They are interdependant. Among the three, the Samskara layer is very adamant. It wants to win always. It wants to have its say always. Many times, things happen according to its whims and fancies. therefore, it is very important to understand this layer. Actually it is more important to know about this layer than the other two layers. Any decision taken in life without understanding this layer will have serious limitations and will misguide the person sooner or later...." to be continued JGD
