Here is what I can think of, Maha Mrutuyunjaya Mantra: This mantra of lord Shiva is the most effective and the most commonly recited one for curing all types of illnesses and to avoid any misfortunes and untimely death. Om Tryambakam Yajamahe Sugandhim Pushti Vardhanam Urvaarukamiva Bhandanath Mruthyor Muksheeya Maamrutat Check the meaning here http://sanjayrath.tripod.com/Hindu/mritunjay.htm You can recite this Mantram around your husband. It is even more effective if he recites it. You should also buy an Maha Mrutuyunjaya Mantram audio cassette/CD and play this near your husband all the time. You can also think about conducting Maha Mrutuyunjaya Homa on your husband's behalf. For good health one can also pray Sun god. Aditya Hrudayam, Soorya Kavacham (from Swamiji's Kavacha Manjari Album) could be good choices. Please consult a good Auyervedic doctor also. It is very difficult for someone to go through the suffering and pain, though our well wishers, family and friends keep giving us words of encouragement. True strength and healing comes from within oneself, but to realize that is very difficult. For such reasons only, we focus externally to get the strength. We believe in God and Swamiji to give us the strength. Whether we seek God and Swamiji within ourselves or externally, ultimately we need them in our lives to give us the strength to go through life's difficult times. Life is like a roller coaster, which will take you up and down, but it will not keep you in the same position for long. Good things have to come after a period of mental agony. We offer our sincere prayers to Swamiji and Datta for your husband's health and long life. Trust in Him and you will find solace. As Madeline and others suggested, a change in life style can bring a lot of relief to your husband. You can ask your husband to try out Yoga, meditation and ask him not to think about his problem. It is true for you also. Sometimes more than the problem, the thought of how we will overcome the problem could bring more mental suffering.
