Bhajan Competition at DRC, on the Occassion of Sri Swamiji's 64 Birthday.

On the occasion of Sri Sadguru Deva’s 64th birthday celebrations at DRC,

Sri Sadguru Deva blessed us with the opportunity of conducting Bhajan

Competition Program….similar to, and along the same guidelines as what

is done in Mysore, on this holy occasion of His Holiness birthday

celebrations.

 

It is a wonderful opportunity for all of us to participate in this first

ever Bhajan Competition, for all the devotees across USA and Canada.

 

Adopting the same tradition as in India, below is the framework outlined

for the competition:

 

1. The competition is held with a fixed list of bhajans (list provided

below, along with the album that the bhajan is from)

 

2. To give a fair opportunity to all the devotees, the participants

will be divided into 3 groups based on the age of the registered

participant.

 

3. Group I will have participants in the age group of up to (and

including) 12 years. Group II will have devotees of up to (and

including) 18 years and the rest will be in group III.

 

4. Those who have turned 13 in the months of April 06, May 06 will

still be able to register in group I and similarly those turning 19 in

the months of April 06 and May 06 can be part of group II.

 

5. As you can see, this competition is not just for children, but for

adults as well (group III). So, let us all participate and make it a

successful program, to continue for years to come.

 

6. The list of bhajans for Group I will have a total of 12 bhajans, for

Group II, a total of 25 bhajans, and for Group III, a total of 64

bhajans (for 64th birthday). The lists for Group I and Group II are

subsets of Group III list.

 

7. Each participant picks a raffle (draw of lots) which will decide the

bhajan that he or she has to sing in the competition.

 

8. Bhajans have to be sung in the same tune as that is in the

album/cassette indicated, per the list below. (some bhajans are in

multiple albums, and in different tunes. We have to stick to one

version in order to judge).

 

9. The number of times you repeat each line does not have to be same as

what is in the cassette. It is left your discretion.

 

10. Parameters for evaluation will be

a. Style of singing (should be close to how the cassette has the

song)

b. Scales and variations (should not be out of pitch while singing)

c. Correctness of the lyric & pronunciation

d. Melody

e. Whether the Bhajan is by heart or sung looking into the text

 

11. Judges decision will be final and no discussions will be

entertained.

 

All the Satsang groups are invited to ACTIVELY participate in this event

and display our love to Sri Swamiji’s Bhajans. Please propagate this

message within your groups and proactively encourage devotees to

register. Good participation ensures a successful program, and

initiatives like this will build our satsang groups' capacity to sing

Sri Swamiji's bhajans, ....and the (Swamiji) tradition, culture will

pass on to our children automatically and effortlessly!

Competition will be held in the Datta Retreat Center , during the

Birthday Celebrations (27th, 28th, 29th May 2006)

 

The lists of Bhajans (provided below) will also be made available in the

DYCNJ website, and please expect that to be ready in the next couple of

days.
