am doing fine rajat, thanks for concern. today i walked through

shells of buildings here in Tampa as businesses were closed and folks

at home with loved ones. in Tampa, we have MacDill Air Force Base and

many of our police were there. what i did witness was amazing--just

the breakdown of the social barriers between people. people were

looking at each other like they were seeing outside themselves for

the first time. people seemed very connected to and interested in

each other. i recall one man walking through a bookstore with

earphones on and he looked at me and shook his head indicating he was

listening to the reports. he immediately came up and struck a

conversation. he needed to get back to california today for business

and his boss was angry and phoning but he could not get a flight.

also, our local airport was closed. today was just so strange. it

definitely is a time for reevalutaion for us americans. what do we

trust in? are our interests material or spiritual? do we trust in the

government to protect us or do we know how to protect ourselves? i'm

saddened over any hurt or sufferring, esp. to innocent folks, but i'm

glad that many are receiving a wake-up call and getting a new

revelation of interdependence, as opposed to independence. and also,

many in america think that our country can never have such troubles,

but just like tibet or poland or native american nations, we too can

be invaded and dominated by others. we should never think we are

beyond it. this is a time for purging and hopefully spiritual growth.

 

by the way, i also agree with you about fanatacism. it just hurts

people. if you are truly inspired in your religious views then it

will motivate you to compassion and it will help you be an

invigorating element in society, really holding it together, along

with everyone else.

We have a community of durga worshipping regularly in

chittagong. I am malti from chittagong. I used to work

in a place called bhola and left the place

immeadiately after the damage to our mondir of shiv

and durga. My elder brother is a priest in shiv mandir

and kali badi nearby and he migrated to kolkata as

things turned too bad.

Also please offer prayers on behalf of us.

pandals this year.

is now election time here. many of my relatives have

fled to kolkata and other places to avoid any untoward

incidents especially abduction of our girls. Please go

through this with compassion towards us (we 2.5 crore

hindus and buddhists and some others) here and sign

We, the signatories of this petition, call on the

Bangladesh Government to

 

1) setup an enquiry commission on recent skirmishes

against minority communities in Bhola, Jessore, Feni

and Borishal. Punish those responsible and provide

rehabilitation to minority victims.

Note: According to national and international news

reports and statements of eyewitnesses, radical wings

of some political parties harassing minorities

throughout Bangladesh either not to participate in the

upcoming election to exercise their voter rights.

Fearing further violence, minorities in many villages

throughout Bangladesh are leaving their locality and

in some cases even leaving the country.

2) put an immediate end to harassment, racial

discrimination and religious intolerance against

minority Bangladesh citizens and guarantee them to

exercise their legitimate rights to freedom of

expression, freedom of association and freedom of

religion;

3) demonstrate a willingness to respect the rights of

Minority Bangladesh citizens by proceeding quickly to

implementation of the International Covenant on Civil

and Political Rights (ICCPR) and the International

Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights

(ICESCR).

4) Ensure that indigenous people such as Santhals,

Mru, Khasia, Khewang and other tribals can live a

peaceful life in their own natural habitats.

Note: Commercial echo projects are threatening the

very existence of the indigenous people.

5) setup an enquiry commission to provide impartial

probe on Santhal slaughtering at Vimpur village of

Mohadevpur upazilla under Naogaon district and enforce

justice thereof.

Note: Please consider the editorial report of Daily

Star dated: August 21, 2000

6) deploy an enquiry commission to provide impartial

probe on atrocities against tribal community at

Ramgarh, Khagrachari dated Monday, 25th June 2000.

Note: Please refer to all national newspapers dated

June 25th for report.

7) setup an enquiry commission to provide impartial

probe on 1992 atrocities against Hindus throughout

Bangladesh, immediately punish those responsible,

rehabilitate the victims and guarantee constitutional

rights

DEAR BILL,

Thank GOD !!!!!! really releived 2 know of ur well being . i have

been regularly trying 2 catch news about the BARBARIC ACT & THE CHAOS

CAUSED!!!!!

This is not the first time ,US has been attacked (& even other

countries) & the solution does not lie with ONE COUNTRY'S GOVT.

which wake up only when they r affected but by joint efforts of all

DEMOCRATIC COUNTRIES & HUMAN OF THE UNIVERSE!!!!!!

no country ,place or person is safe from such attacks esp terrorist

,as they donot come with warning & esp. when pr ready to die forming

Neways i donot personally think that ne commission or govt. can check

all this.ok ,one may get justice (?) but will such incidents stop.
