I was so touched by his devotion to Rama and how he reverenced him and how he stays by his feet. I love that devotion. In our faith, we concieve of Lord Yesu enshrined in our hearts, along with all the holy brothers and sisters. There are also paintings where Yesu's chest is exposed and his heart is showing. I loved how Hanuman is often depicted with his heart showing his devotion to God. I feel like I learned a spiritual lesson from this. To be like Hanuman is to be devoted to God. Also, if we think that divinity resides in us all then we should be Hanuman to everyone we meet, to whatever degree is possible. I realize I am talking about a high ideal here, but that is exactly what the spiritual life points to, something beyond our awareness. I realize we need to have an ideal to reach for and also we need to have practical ways to reach. I am feeling a kinship now with Ganesh, Hanuman and Lakshmana (who I would love to learn more about). I hope to love God one day as much as Hanuman. Perhaps if I keep his company I will. Peace, Bill
Guest guest
---- Begin Included Message ---- Bill HI. The ideas you spoke about are really good. especially, " To be like Hanuman is to be devoted to God. Also, if we think that divinity resides in us all then we should be Hanuman to everyone we meet, to whatever degree is possible. I realize I am talking about a high ideal here, but that is exactly what the spiritual life points to, something beyond our awareness. " I totally agree with you. This is one reason I feel my devotion to Hanuman. Usually in India, Hanuman, and in particular the Hanuman chalisa (the 40 verses of Hanuman) is chanted by bachelors. But when I came to find Hanuman some years ago, I did not know about this, I was just greatly awed by his devotion detailed in Ramayana. I have been taking up learning Hanuman chalisa and reading a lot about Hanuman, then I realized it is ok that I am not a 'bachelor' or a 'man' as many other told me, because the whole idea of Hanuman to me is devotion. It is a high ideal, but I think you are right if you keep company with such saints and gods and even people on earth who are on this track or going to be etc then it is 'easier' to reach. Usually each God or Goddess In India has a reason to be prayed to so to speak, like Hanuman for bachelors, Saraswathi for learning (saraswathi puja is coming next month), ganesha for obstacles, etc. Jennifer Enjoy being an Indyan at http://www.indya.com
