Guest guest
Bill HI I am sorry I don't know about vedic gods question. But I do know lots about the markings on the foreheads. It is simple, this is how I memorised it: V on the forehead means Vishnu, hence they are called Vishnavites (devotees of Vishnu) Three white horizontal marks on forehead means Shiva, they are Shivites. Usually Shivites worship Ganesha more as Shiva is Ganesha's father. But now a days all worship Ganesha. It took me two years in India to get this down. Especially in Brahmins, there are shivites and vishnavites. (not sure about other castes) for marriage and other ritual traditions. Usually the vishnavites go to Tirupathi, or the Venkataswara temple in Tirupathi. And on top of this, I only saw men keeping these on their forehead, women don't do that, they just keep a bindi. I don't think there is any particular symbol to wear for Ganesha as such. Jennifer Enjoy being an Indyan at http://www.indya.com
