kalayanam puja

Hi Group in Tamil Kalayanam means Marriage.

Last year around this time I went to a Siva temple and performed a

Kalayanam puja. For this puja you make prayer to Siva and a Goddess

(I forgot name) and then the pujari gives you three items, one is a

thali (marriage necklace) with ginger piece on it, the second is puja

card (attachment) and some kum kum and viboodhi. After he performs

his puja, then I tied a thali on a rod above siva. In most temples

they tie the thali on a tree. Tree-fertility. I am going back to

this temple next month to perform the puja again.

The card has a mantra on it...

the side with 5171 number says in english transliteration:

deva devi jahan mathaa

jahadha naththakaranii

uthvaha prapthayarththam

anyuknyaam degimedevi

vithyambehay

 

two most bottom lines

appaariyar suvamikal seva dirst

mudichur

 

(mudichur is the village in which the temple is)

 

Tamil is a very difficult language to read and speak from the script

because many of the transliterated letters I wrote above are spoken

in this way, but actually the letter is different. For ex. the H's I

used is really a K. but H and K is same as tamil doesn't have an H

letter, it comes from sanskrit. It is pretty confusing.

 

The back of the card says:

 

arunmiku vithyambihay cameth

pimesvar-sri devi pu devi

tamaetharap perumal allyam

in parenthesis

siva vishnu alayum

mudichur chennai 600 048

 

bus route: 55 B51 L 18

 

THe front is the puja prayer I had to say 11 times a day for 21 days

the back tells the name and direction to temple.

 

One more thing ONLY GIRLS DUE THIS PUJA! Sorry guys!

 

I can't translate the prayer in to english, but mostly says names of

God and Goddess.
