He possesses a crown on his head and is attired in black clothes. The complexion of his body is smoke-like and he has a deformed face. In each of his two hands he holds a mace and the other two hands are raised in the posture of giving boons and blessings. He is seated on a vulture which is his vehicle and some say that the pigeon is also his vehicle. ‘Ketu’ is the headless trunk of the demon ‘Rahu’. After the killing of Rahu, when lord Vishnu severed his head with his sudarshan chakra, the head portion was called Rahu and the trunk was called Ketu. Both Rahu and Ketu became planets and according to matsyapurana, there are numerous Ketus out of which ‘Dhoomketu’ is the main one. According to Indian astrology the dragon’s tail is a shadow planet. It has a tremendous impact on human lives and also the entire creation. Its area of influence is considered to be in the north-west direction. According to some scholars Ketu is sombre and mild as compared to Rahu and is beneficial to people. In certain circumstances it helps a man to achieve the zenith of fame. The shape of Ketu is considered to be of the shape of a fluttering flag. Its length is only six angul (six inches). Although both Rahu and Ketu originated from the same body, after being transformed into planets which is considered as their rebirth, new names/lineages were given to them. Rahu was considered to be of ‘Paithinas’ clan or lineage and Ketu was considered to be of ‘Jainini’ lineage. The great phase of Dragon’s tail lasts for seven years. Rahu’s presiding dety is Chitraketu. If Ketu is positioned in an inauspicious house of a man’s horoscope, then it causes inauspicious events. The man gets inflicted with diseases like leprosy, itches, and ringworm. Giving away the following things pacifies Ketu: Lapis - Lazule (gem), oil, black sesame, blanket, weapon, musk and flowers (blue colour). Wearing cat’s eye and chanting ‘Mrityunjaya' Japa also pacifies Ketu. Shukra - The radiant celestial guru of the demons Slogam The radiant celestial guru of the demons Shukracharya was born to Bhrigu Maharishi and Ushana, also known as Usha. Bhrigu Maharishi married Usha, the daughter of Hiranya Kashipu. Shukracharya was born out of this wedlock. He married Priyavratha's daughter Urjaswathi and gave birth to four sons Chanda, Amarka, Twaashtra, Dharaatra and a daughter by name Devayaani. According to Kashi Khanda, Shukra, along with Brihaspathi studied under Angirasa. But Shukra, to his dismay, notices Angirasa's undue favouritism towards his son Brihaspathi. Shukra leaves to enrole himself with Gauthama Maharishi. On Gauthama Maharishi's advice he sets off on a penance on the banks of river Gautami to appease Lord Shiva and obtains 'Mritasanjeevani," (the technique of reviving the deceased back to life). Shukra thus presides over as a teacher to the demons and in the battle between the gods and demons, he breathes life into the slain demons. Shukra is sharp. When Vishnu with the Vaamana roopam, arrives in Bali's kingdom and asks for three steps as alms, Shukra is quick to understand the implication of such a request and warns Bali in advance. As he stands between the alms given and the Vaamana to block a possible catastrophe, Vaamana pierces Shukra’s eye and from then he becomes an one-eyed guru. Shukra's nature: The fair-coloured Shukra adorns a crown and positions himself on a white lotus. The four-handed Shukra holds the baton, rosary, a vessel and a gesture of assurance. He favours demons and presides over the material and metaphysical wealth; blessed by Brahma, he attains planetary positions and showers bounty everywhere. Indraani is his adhidewata and Indra is the Pratyadhidevata. The eight-horse-chariot of Shukra sports many flags. Shukra stands for pleasure, love, marriage, beauty, jewellery, fine arts, etc. Any type of prosperity is the result of Shukra's blessing. A broken marriage, ill-repute, excess expenditure, kidney problem, diabetics, throat infection are the result of Shukra being in a malignant position. Annapoorna Ashtothram Slogam The Goddess Annapoorna is looked upon as the provider of food and the sustainer of prosperity. Legend has it that Shiva made an agreement with Goddess Annapoorna that she look after life before death, ensuring that no one went hungry in the sacred city, while he would ensure they recieved moksha (freedom from the cycle of birth & death). Annapoorna is Kashi's queen. She is known in the Kashi Khanda as Bhavani, the female shakti of Bhava, "Being," one of the names of Shiva. The name Annapoorna means "She of Plenteous Food." She is called the "Mother of the Three Worlds," and she promises to those who come to her what only a mother can give, naturally and freely - food. Legend says when Vishnu adopted the Vamana avatar, The Sky provided him the umbrella, kubera provided him the bowl and Goddess Annapoorna herself offers bhiksha to Him. The idol of Annapoorna always has a small vessel / ladle containing Annam (food) signifying that the worshipper is assured of food throughout his/her life time.
