Guest guest
It has been a little while since I have been able to check in, I hope All are well...Lillith I am puzzled in regards to your house painting obstacles. I have asked among my friends.... the advise has been the same suggestions as given by SY, Jennifer and others. You are definitly in my prayers. Perhaps prayers to Sri Kshipraprasada Ganapati ( The Quick Rewarder ) Who holds among His tools a "club to destroy the clouds of obstacles."...and a branch of" kalpavriksha ( wish fulfilling tree )" Om Sri Kshipaprasada Ganapati Namah Sister Jennifer, I prepared again your recipes and the food was among the offerings at my temple's Pongal Festival which was great fun !!! I think I will now attempt the recipes I have for modaka, Sri Ganapati's favorite snack. To answer your question about how I became Hindu....I converted or rather volunteered having joined the following of a swami from India who had large "movement"in America ,it was with this group I learned the basics of Hinduism. I expanded my knowledge in India . I explore the various schools of Vedic/Hindu philosophy and am inspired and fond of the teachings of a variety of Hindu saints, gurus, swamis and others ,indian and non-indian. Wishing to avoid the dogma, politics, and "cult of personality" I found in several ashrams/organization I have been a 'independent western hindu" for years. I am fortunate that I am accepted and very much encouraged and guided by the priest and others at my local temple. I also have the consul of a long time western swamini to draw upon. I enjoy the expressions of God in all the forms and have investigated many religions.... Hindu practice or sadhana seems to fit me best with Sri Ganapati as my ishta deva or main form of worship Well I guess I've rattled on enough...it is a beautiful day here in southern California I hope it is likewise were you all are...Peace and Love all Around !!! Guest guest
Lambodara , You have given good advice to Lilith, as I mentioned about my story about Ganesha Is modaka a snack made from chick peas? (garbanzo peas) in south India this is called Sundal and is also offered to Ganesha in Ganesh Chathurthi. This is my most fave snack. I can share this recipe also. IT is very nice with raw mango. THis is my fave in the world! the story of how you came to Hinduism is very inspiring, esp since you did not get caught up in this 'cult of personality' Most do, and this is the sad thing. Like one year I attended a festival of India in Boston, it was put on by these hare krisnas. All were teen agers who thought it was cool to be different. I talked to a few, this is how I came to this conclusion. One girl in particular had been able to recite a few sanskrit slokas, but neither could she read sanskrit or understand the meaning behind them. When I told her I went to India, she was like wow man that is like soooo coool! And she was sitting behind a booth selling way too over priced saris and contraptions for smoking pot. Hindus do not smoke pot like these Hare Krishnas in US, so many Americans have the wrong idea about India.. it is not full of hippies and druggies. This is a small pet peeve of mine. I am happy though that you were able to follow what your heart really believes. I have been tried by some 'missionaries of hare' to be drawn in in subways in boston, in my university in buffalo and other places in US. Usually because the person saw me wearing a bindi or salwaar kamiz. In Oregon I went to a world festival. It was so funny cause there was an India booth, so I checked it out. There were some ladies selling salvaar kamiz that in India cost about $5US but they were selling them for about $50, and there I was wearing a salvaar kamiz with the dupetta and the lady selling the salvaar kamiz who was an Indian, looked at me and said 'Do you know these salvaar kamiz' are three pieces?" I did not want to be disrespectful, so she took some down and demonstrated to me how to wear it, all along I am wearing one in front of her. I found it comical. bye for now Jennifer
