Guest guest
Namaste Scott, Its very kind of you to offer help, truly appreciate your lovely thought. One of these days, I may take up your offer and mail you offlist, bless you brother. You are absolutely correct about the Runes being fickle and that one must learn about the culture where they originated from. Very good advice from you that I shall remember. Many thanks for getting on the soapbox - that was exactly what I needed to hear! Thanx too for telling me about Ralph Elliot and R.I. Page. Shall be checking their books out at some point. Currently I'm on some projects far removed from Nordic/Germanic materials but when I happen to get round to them, shall give you a yell. You're a "gem" (as we like to say in Ozland)! The nice thing about them is you learn about concepts not meanings out of a book. Though to be honest I think anyone who is trying to read the Runes needs to study a bit about the culture where they come from. The same is true in my opinon of someone wanting to study say Tantra. > > I am going to briefly get on my soap box. A lot of the stuff published by the popular press is not that good. And I am being kind here. Most of the books commonly available are drawing from modern (19th and 20th century) and New Age material. This only has a superficial relationship to the Runes of the Ancient Germanic people. > > If you are really interested in learning about the Runes I have some book suggestions. Check out Runes: An Introduction by Ralph Elliott. Its a great introduction. Also anything by RI Page is really good. These sources are achedemic and as such will not show you how to "read Runes in three easy steps" ;-) If that has weted your apitite contact me off list and I can provide more resources. I hope that helps. > > Cheers, > Scott
