I may join you in cursing , Shambhalanath. I think several others of you

might feel the same way. I received the following mail from someone through

another list and I think it's worth passing on. PLEASE READ THIS, IF YOU DON'T

READ ANYTHING ELSE.

IS SELLING YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION.

I checked this out on my own accounts and it is true. If you don't want to be

receiving a lot of junk mail and having your info sold to any and everyone,

make sure that you take care of this. The letter is as follows:

This has been floating around the livejournal community the last24 hours and I

thought you guys would like to

know:-----------------------------ATTENTION

USERS - Check Your Profile for Marketing Preferences!!!If You Have A

Account, {Mail, Groups, Anything}Your Profile Has Recently Been Modified

By To Allow Sale OfYour Personal Information - or anything false you may

have entered.anyway, i saw the following notice on a Group and *i*

havepersonally confirmed this to have happened to my accounts. theonly

ones that do not have this change are the ones signed up for atUK. i have

just freaked out and changed my marketing preferencesfrom all "Yes!"go to

http://edit.my. , log in, click on "Account Settings"in the upper

right corner. you will need to confirm log-in. look at yourprofile: immediately

under your e-mail addresses you will see "Edit MyMarketing Preferences."the

defaults are "Yes" for every newsletter and to allow sale/trade of anyaddress

or phone information.-=-=-When was down for 3 days a few weeks ago a

major change was madethat they didn't tell ANYONE about. They have added

"Marketingpreferences" to your list of user preferences. It asks whichoffers

and emails you wish to recieve, but the default is YES, so yourpreferences are

set so that may sell your name and email addressto whomeverthey wish. The

only way to stop this is to edit yourpreferences, but so few people even KNOW

about this that no oneis doing it, so is making a tidy sum sellingyour

information *with your legal permisson*.It doesn't stop there, they are also

selling your realhome address and phone in the same manner. If you scroll to

the bottomof the page it asks if you want to recieve offers at your home

address andphone.Again, the default setting is YES. I recommend thatanyone who

has a account, immediately go to your preferencesin and change the

Marketing Preferences setting (it's in thesame section as your email

You can also take care of this from your mailbox by clicking on OPTIONS and

then going to ACCOUNT PREFERENCES

The "Marketing preferences" In 's options do not

apply to users who are 13 or under 13 years old.
