Thanks to Brother Sy for keeping everything on track...Does anyone have any cd/tapes of Ganapathi bhajans , chants etc to recommend ? Yesterday, Easter Sunday was the monthly observance of Sankatahara Chathurthi the puja to Sankatahara Ganapathi The Disspeller of Sorrows. At the Malibu Temple the puja began at 5:30pm with a Homa ( Fire Ceremony ) then the Abihisekam ( Bathing ) of the large black granite murthi of Sri Ganesha. 1st with Water then Milk then Buttermilk and then a final rinse with water, in between each bath were offerings of incense, flame and fruits. After the final bath of water the curtains of the shrine were closed. When they had been reopened Sri Malibu Ganapathi had been dressed in a white dhothi with red border and a beautiful red embroidered cloth for His shoulders. He was decorated with flowers red, yellow, white roses and white callalilys and a large garland. Arcahana was performed with incense, flowers, flames and the chanting of mantras We then took prasadam which featured several types of modaka Sri Ganesha's favorite snack. The puja was performed with energy and enthusiasm by pujaris / priests Sriman Sitaraman and Sriman Shastry . From the smiles and camaraderie amongst the gathering ( about 60 ) sorrows had been indeed offered into the fire and thus disspelled. To hear Sriman Sitaraman very nicely chant the Sri Ganapathi Upanishad go to http://www.puja.net/index.htm then click on the multi media button on the right under the photo of Sri Ganesha...then click on the Upanishad on the bottom left and follow the instructions on the following page to down load and listen. Well I hope everyone will be healthy, happy and prosperous this spring, May Sri Ganapathi guide and protect us all May all obstacles and sorrows be removed.
