Guest guest
Hi Group- I am posting this following URL http://www.himalayanacademy.com/basics/conversion/09steps.html It includes 'Nine steps to 'becoming' a Hindu' I would like group members to read it and take a stand so we can have a discussion. I will post a few early thoughts about this- (I posted this to someone else privately) I wanted to say something about the link for 'coversion'. These steps and philosophies are NON HINDU. There is no conversion- only adoptation of ideas and things. I do understand some believe you can't be 'a religion' without taking the name associated with that- but I don't believe it and it infuriates me that people think they NEED to change their name or dissassociate with old acquiantances just because they want to change religions- or especially in following Hinduism. Keeping such steps 'to conversion' limits HInduism as Christianity or Islam or even maybe Jewish- and Hinduism is not like those religions or ways of life. I am upset that a Hindu organization which 'preaches' Hindu concepts is so narrow minded and conforming to western religions - of course I do see the other side- it helps people who have been bought up in western religion to embrace HInduism because 'westerners' are programmed into thinking to be a religion one must convert and think their OLD RELIGION was BAD or WRONG. and Hinduism does not preach this- far from it. It is the most democratic faith in the world- you can even be a non believer of GOD and be a Hindu as it is a way of life. What do you think?
