While in the West, Tantra is frequently misunderstood as the Yoga of Sex,

in India Tantra is most often misunderstood as the Yoga of Spellcasting.

Tantric Yogis are often feared as casters of the Evil Eye (<nazar>), and

sometimes sell their services to bless or curse others for a price.

Below is a list of the ten most common forms of magic used by Tantric

sorcerers (note that there are more cursings than blessings!). Ganesha

can be invoked to remove obstacles to each type of magic, especially if

he is envisioned with a complexion of an appropriate color.

white Ganesh Shantikaran (pacify) - cure disease, remove curses

crystal Ganesh Mokshan (liberate) - remove restrictions, debts

green Ganesh Pushti (enrich) - increase wealth, prestige

red Ganesh Akarshan (attract) - attract things (goods, people,

opportunities)

yellow Ganesh Stambhan (arrest) - petrify; stop movement

blue Ganesh Mohan (enchant) - cause delusions, stupefy

smoky Ganesh Ucchatan (confuse) - disturb thoughts, distract

crimson Ganesh Vashikaran (subjugate) - control another's mind, make a

zombie

brown Ganesh Vidveshan (dissention) - cause animosity between two people

black Ganesh Maran (destroy) - kill at a distance

I used to sometimes sell small quartz crystal carvings of Ganesha, which

are reputed to help one repay ones financial debts. I've only gotten one

complaint -- I sold a customer a <smoky> quartz Ganesha (what was my

importer thinking?), and he complained that since he'd bought it, he was

suffering from writer's block! I suggested that he give the carving as a

gift to someone who was a rival writer... Ganesha, it should be

remembered, not only removes obstacles -- sometimes he sets them up.
