Man, what a message that was...

Yesterday, net surfing, I shambled somehow onto a message board

domiciled in Bombay, a general discussion board, and stumbled onto

the most provocative post re Ganesh. I don't think I could find the

message again if my life depended upon it, but here's its gist:

Have you moved from a mere appreciation of Ganesha, or a mere

scholarly interest, and have you commenced a dialog with Him in your

heart? Have you made your heart a home for Him…can the two of you

talk things over there many times during the course of the day?

Let's pull over to the side of the road for a minute. How many of

us here can say yes to all that? If we can say yes, how often to

we forget to talk things over with him because Ego has An Agenda and

has seduced us yet again into dropping everything and high tailing

it the hell out in a rush in some arbitrary direction?

(First one to say this never happens in the course of their day gets

a fat lip.)

That was the interesting part of the message. The rest was

fascinating. Its gist was, ok, now that you've got dialoging down

and you even remember to get in touch many times during the day,

what comes next? Do you think Ganesha just wants to sit around in

your heart waiting for you to speak up or do you think maybe, maybe

He'd like the two of you to move on even from that?

Where is the path headed? Are you progressing along it or are you

stuck in your heart-home at the let's discuss stage? What next?

Man, what a message that was. I had the sense the writer was an

ordinary Bombay citizen, spiritually a bunch of steps ahead of the

crowd. Man, what a message that was…

May I share a quip that came to mind: In devoted seekers of God,

sins find no shelter.

Devotion is fine its perfect but if you grab it, hold it and become

blindly attached to it, it is not devotion anymore but an

attachement...
