Guest guest
I've also read that the sound of bells is very pleasing to the Devas, but frightens away the Asuras. This is why Mother Durga goes into battle ringing a hand-bell. -- Len/ Kalipadma On Wed, 28 Aug 2002 17:37:29 -0700 (PDT) SY Zenith <syzenith writes: > > Namaste Rishi, > Here's an input from OzHindu member Deepak in regards your query: > Deepak Vinod wrote: > Namaste: I have heard that the sounds made by any instruments and > bells especially in temples are the hymns of the vedas itself, which > therefore is very pleasing to the Lord. Guest guest
Very interesting what you point out about the bells. Many spiritual cultures use the bell as a wake up call.Bells were in the past a communication system between towns. They had a language code and each town could send messages of warning or whatever to the neighbouring towns by ringing them in a particular way. In my personal experience, the sound of bells goes directly to the conciousness, its like a wake up call. Buddhist use the gantha, the bell to perform rituals. Ganthas have at the point of the bell a representation of Goddess Prajnaparamita, the holder of the great wisdom (Heart Sutra-Prajnaparamita). Althought I am not an expert I imagine that ringing the bell in Buddhism must connect us with the essence of the prajnaparamita. The use of the gantha and the vajra(dorje) is a combination of prajnaparamita and the diamondlike cutter that puts wisdom in action... But that´s my personal idea, here is a more detailed explanation of the use of the Bell and the vajra http://www.tibet.com/Buddhism/3objects.html
