Pillaiyarpatti Ganesh, Tamil Nadu. The inner part of the main temple has been

excavated in a middle-sized rock (it is nearly impossible to see it behind the

temple), to make a cave locally called Karpakavinayaka. In this cave, a big

Ganesh image has been carved in the granite wall rock. Right-turned trunk

(Valampuri) Ganesh is sitting. He has only two arms. He is more than two meters

height and looks very impressive. Just below the navel, a wide belt girds the

waist where the left hand rests. Atop each arm, we can see bangles. Nine small

oil-lamps surround and enlighten his perfect form. All along the daily rituals,

Ganesh is most times adorned with golden ornaments. An inscription written in

proto-Vatteluttu characters dates this 6 th-centuried sanctuary
