Guest guest Posted September 15, 2002 Report Share Posted September 15, 2002 I just set up a new album in "Photos". It's called GANESHA UPANISHAD. It consists of 18 "pages" of the "upanishad". The words are based on passages from the Ganesha Upanishad but I have left out passages of the original text that, after months of grappling with them, I have found of little help to my Western mind. That's the bad news. The good news is that, though I say it m'self, the English is miles above all other translations out there and I do think, here and there, it actually wanders into the blessed fields of poetry. Some of the images you may recognize, for I keep working with them. Others are new. The concept was, as in my Album containing the Twelve Names, to create a sequence of image/texts that could be used as a computer slide show or, even, screen saver. Here at home, I have set the 18 images of this "upanishad" as a slide show, each image to appear for 20 seconds (the amount of time required to read the text and "get the gestalt") and watch them in sequence. I try to watch them quietly without thinking morning and night to connect with Ganesh. It, again though I say it m'self, works. While the album containing the 12 names may be watched in any sequence at all, I think it is important to watch/meditate this series in sequence, which follows the sequence of the original texts. A scholarly reader, or a devotee of Krishna, may recognize a few borrowings from the Bhagavad Gita...phrases now and again...I figured, since Ganesh was the stenographer for the Gita and all, no one would mind. This new album is especially dedicated to you 89 people who are today, September 15, 2002, members of this group, and you may share its contents with anyone. Enjoy!
