Guest guest
In Hinduism (and Buddhism) the number 108 (and 1008 -- the number of zeroes doesn't matter) is considered auspicious. Rosaries generally have 108 beads, and there are lists of 108 names, or 1008 names of divinities that may be chanted in ritual. The Sanskrit word for "auspiciousness" is <Mangalam>. My friends know that every time I see the sacred number, I shout "Mangalam!" The digital clock shows it's 10:08 AM, and I say "Mangalam!" We drive past West 108th Street? "Mangalam!" I've been pleased to note that The Kali Mandir in Laguna Beach, California, schedules their evening pujas to Kali Ma at 10:08 PM (and apparently lie prostrate on the ground, kicking their feet and pounding their fists, whining "Ma! Ma! Ma!"). The Haidakhandi Ashram in Crestone, Colorado, also schedules events to occur at 1:08 or 10:08, AM or PM. They should be wishing each other auspiciousness at these magickal hours. Today is October 8th, 2002. Which may be written "10/8" -- Mangalam! -- Len/ Kalipadma ______________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Juno offers FREE or PREMIUM Internet access for less! Guest guest
Hi y'all - I have really enjoyed reading these but have to bow out. Between jobs and home, I cringe when I have 50 emails! Can't check it often enough to keep up. But I do appreciate the information you have kindly given this infidel.
