I know of Lord Vishnu's Boar avatar, Varaha.

What was his avatar as a Bull?

Very few people hunt and eat wild animals. Of domesticated animals, if

you want to control their population, don't breed them!

Hi all,

For the first time I am posting something. this is my answer to our

friend Jamie.

Jamie you have asked are hindus allowed to eat meat ? Yes hindus are

allowed. If you are talking of sub castes there are many who are not

allowed / supposed to eat Meat or so called Non veg.

Even hindus are not allowed to eat PORK, BEAF. The reason behind this is

these two were the avataras of Lord Vishnu.

Otherwise also I support people eating meat to keep control on animal

population.

Comments are welcome . . .

Dear friend,

Whatever I have read and got the info from the anciant people are,

Hindus should not take the non veg. There are lot and lot of reasons are behind

it. One among them is it is not coming under "Dharma". ( I think it is

ManuDharma ) .

They should not take other than vegitables. On taking vegitables also there is

one sloka is there on bringing the vegitables / leaves when they are alive. We

have to tell that manthara for not getting the "pavam" bcz of killing that

plant. Killing the plants and eating them comes under "Manuda Dharma". This is

clearly explained in Ithigaka. ( Sorry I dont know where it comes, As i read

this on long back i forget it the place that present )

The above one is not my vision or thoughts whatever i have got from the antiant

/ forefathers and from the ithigasa i have given.

Comments are welcome.

Hi friend,

Bull is not an avathar and hindus are worshipping that animal as muslims are worshiping Boar.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi Group. My name is JEnnifer (Jayanthi)

Some know me from long back.I have been out of the group for

awhile. Thought I would stop by today. Found this

interesting post I would like to reply to.

Yes, Hindus can and many DO eat meat. I lived in Chennai for

two years. (I am an American). It is true as another said,

that Indian eat a lot less meat than the typical American. I

lived in a Christian college. Though mosty populated by

Christians, there were many Hindus also living on campus.

They served all meat there - mutton

(goat),beef,pork,fish,chicken,egg (considered non veg by

most).

Many Hindus ate all meats. I was shocked to find this out

and asked a few of my Hindu friends from my class who were

from the village. They said even at one time they ate beef

(not ever pork)- the main reason they gave is because the

mutton (goat) was too costly and hence they ate the cow

because it was cheaper. Many people in INdia are NOT

vegetarians. Yes the sheer number, even if 10%, is much more

than found in western countries, but even many traditional

castes like Brahmins are going into meat eating.

In fact I read an interesting book called the value of

values (you can find this book for US$7 at arshavidya.org)

where swami says one of the reasons for not eating meat is -

i should not make something my dinner which can make me

their dinner. I liked that. Perfect karma. Of course, in

reality a cow can not since a cow (elephant, and so many

other animals) are natural vegetarians, but I liked the

analogy very much.

If any new members you can see my site at

http://members.tripod.com/~jennifer_polan

I am not sure how often I will visit, life is busy for me.

If you want to email me directly that is possible -

ilovemadras

Om Shanti,

Jayanthi (Jennifer)
