Guest guest
Namaste Keri, The ghee lamp I have on my altar is exactly the same as the ones floating on water in a pic that can be found at: http://www.afsandeberg.com/surain_robert/Surain-pilgrimage/05- varanasi/pages_English/20159-The-ghee-lamps-on-the- water___Gheelamporna-p_-a-vattnet.htm While my little clay container was from India, you can make these using brown clay (sort of terracotta color). Get some thick wicks from a craft or hobby store. Obtain a tin of ghee from the supermarket or Indian grocery store (some other ethnic stores sell ghee too). Cut the wick about 3/4 length of the clay dish. Put the wick in the dish. Use a dinner knife to pat ghee into it, making sure the wick is relegated to the bottom. Fill it with ghee to the dish's brim and pat it flat with the knife. That's it. With all flames, take precautions not to place it near a window when its breezy, remove flammable stuff from around the flame, etc. Fire precautions are important. On the other hand, there are brass containers (and of other materials or metals too) that resemble goblets or two cups with bottoms glued together. The top portion is used for putting ghee and wick in. These should be quite readily found via mail order but I haven't been able to find a site for you as yet.
