This year, a farmer outbid everyone with a whopping Rs 1.55-lakh bid. Last year, the Balapur Ganesh Utsav Samithi got Rs 1.05 lakh for the laddu. Chigirinta Bal Reddy of Balapur obtained the 21-kg laddu beating 18 competitors. The auction opened with Rs 1,116. "I am very happy to acquire the Lord's laddu after a hot auction," Bal Reddy said. "I will distribute the laddu among my family members, near and dear ones and mix some quantity of laddu with the soil of my fields for a good harvest over the next one year with the blessings of Lord Ganesha," he said. The Samithi members said that the money obtained through the auction would be utilised for repairing old temples in Balapur area. When the auctioning of the laddu at Balapur began 10 years ago, the bid amount was just Rs 450. Slowly, the bid money went up and crossed the Rs 1-lakh mark last year. "We are expecting much more money in the years to come," the organisers said. _k singh _ Catering meets Camera; Tanya Weds Sahil.
