LORD GANESH ----------- The name is this deity,also called Goupati,describe him as Lord of Hosts,and The remover of obstacles.Although he has been identified with deities mentioned in the Rigveda his development into his present from took place much later in some recensions of the Mahabharatha .there, and in later texts,there are several accounts of his birth,In one Parvati created him from the scurf of her body so that he could act as her door-guardian.When he refused to admit shiva and shiva the god cut off his head. As Parvati was distressed about this Shiva offered to replace it with the head of the first living being that came along,which happened to be an elephant,According to the Brihaddharma purana,however,he was conjured out of a piece of cloth by shiva to make a son for Parvati.Later shiva brought about the boys death by decapitation and then,in order to plecate Parvati,he called on the gods to find him a new head.After much searching they gave him an elephant head which had a tusk broken when it was cut from the body. Other obstacle of his appearance have their explanation in symbolism,his obesity containsthe whole universe,his trunk is bent to remove obstacles,and his four arms represent the four categories into which things can be divided.
