Guest guest
Ive read that some buddhist sects worship ganesh. From what I understand ganesh is a god. What is the difference between a buddha and a god? I ask this because like the gods in hinduism there are many buddhas complete with female shakti just like the hindu gods.Is there a differnce in the mane goal of these religions? all opinions welcome, a seaker
Guest guest
Hello, I´ve asked myself the same question. I think its hard to make comparisons and we can fall into over simplicity or lack of understanding of the deepth of a given spiritual tradition.I think its hard to look at one spiritual tradition with the eyes of another spiritual tradition. So you can either look at both of them with the Eye of Oneness and Unity or its going to be a hard exploration. >From what I´ve read of Buddhism there are several realms of existence and one of them is the God realm. From their perspective, Gods have a very long life spam but not infinite or eternal so they will sooner or later die and follow the same reincarnation process as a human or a hungry ghost, etc... In other words, according to buddhist, the gods are also under the laws of karma. They have access to spiritual wisdom and possibilities of achieving enlightenement but according to the buddhist teachings, human form is the best possible form to work for the achievement of enlightenement because in heavenly type realms the pleasures are such that you can easily fall in lazyness or other sorts of hindrances that will make your mission harder than on human form. Here, as humans there is a certain discontent because you can see suffering first hand and this discontent makes you search for a solution, and besides you have to right tools to work with. I think some buddhist schools (In Japan) hold Ganesha as a protector, a protective divinity. For me, Ganesha is an enlightened being. I think other persons in this forum are more prepared than me to explain what a god is in hindu perspective....perhaps a God is a manifestation of the ONE source of All that it is?
