Guest guest
Hi James, Of course your question is not at all petty. Lord Ganesha's tummy contains the entire universe and everything in it; so to speak By posting various types of articles here, in a way I'm also taking a liberty and hope some of them may be of interest to our friends here. Five Mukhis are most abundantly available during harvests, hence they are generally used for making japa malas. Five Mukhis represent Lord Shiva, Symbol of Auspiciousness. But this does not mean other faceted rudrakshas are not used for stringing malas. For example, holymen of India would wear 'garlands' of Gauri Shankar rudraksha, etc. Six and Seven mukhi rudrakshas are also quite commonly used for making japa malas but the cost for these are considerably higher than 5 mukhis if you're looking at 108+1 beads. Six mukhi represents God Kartik and is ruled by Venus. Seven mukhi is Lakshmi and Saturn. 8 mukhi represents Lord Ganesha and Rahu. There is also the Ganesh Rudraksha that has a tiny trunk- like 'elevation'. (The above were referenced from scriptures by sources in India.) Your 6 mukhis are likely to be genuinely. Two ways you can find out for sure if you like: Send a scanned pic into the Photos section of this group or send it directly into the body of a message here (pretty sure this group allows html) so we can see it. Happy to authenticate it for you. Rudrakshas get 'thirsty' after a time and oiling should be done to maintain them. I use a combination of almond oil and sandalwood essential oil. How do I know if my rudraksha are the real deal? You mentioned them having five facets most commonly. Mine seem to each have six sides. > I wouldnt have even noticed they had sides if you didnt mention it but ive felt and observed them closely. They deffinately have six facets. They are natural looking enough. > I hope this question isnt to petty. I know this sites focus is on Ganapati. I dont want to take away from that. I dont want to meditate on him with fake rudraksha either. > > Thanks for listening, James > Om Ganesh
