Guest guest
Dwajarohanam of Padmavathi Temple Brahmotsavam held Tirupati | November 28, 2005 1:42:19 PM IST The ''dwajarohanam'' (hoisting of temple flag) in the Sri Padmavathi Temple at Tiruchanoor, near here, was performed today, marking the beginning of the nine-day ''Kartheeka'' Brahmotsavam in the temple. Amid chanting of Vedic hymns by pundits and temple priests, the temple flag was hoisted at the top of the post (''dwajasthambam'') at 0925 hrs. ''Aarthi'' was performed before and after the ceremony. TTD Executive Officer A P V N Sarma, Joint Executive Officer N Mukhteeswara Rao, Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA) Chairman B Karunakar Reddy and Tirupati MLA M Venkataramana were among the hundreds of devotees present. The highlight of the festival would be the ''panchami theertham'' on the last day, when the goddess, who, legend says, manifested herself in the holy Pushkarani ''Padmasarovaram'' in a golden lotus on ''sukla paksha panchami,'' is given a holy bath along with ''Sri Sudarsana Chakra.'' Turmeric, tulsi, silk sarees and other gifts are brought from the Lord Venkateswara Temple at Tirumala in an impressive procession on the occasion and offered to the goddess before the celestial bath. Thousands of devotees would take a holy dip in the tank that day. Religious and cultural programmes would be organised both at the Annamacharya Kalamandiram and Mahati Auditorium, Tirupati and Asthana Mandapam, Tiruchanoor, during the festival.
