Guest guest Posted February 6, 2006 Report Share Posted February 6, 2006 Jammu 5 compulsory subjects in 12th standard IMRAN ZARGAR Jammu, Feb 6: The Jammu and Kashmir State Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has decided to accord compulsory status to fifth subject in the 12th standard from April 2007 in the Jammu division and from October 2006 in the Kashmir division. The Board is also introducing information technology and biochemistry in the syllabi and special stress would be laid on Islamic studies, Vedic studies, and Buddhist studies. Different regional languages of the state would be introduced at the primary level, Director (Academics) BOSE Bashir Ahmed said. The work of reviewing and revamping the syllabi of the courses up to higher secondary level has almost been completed. Prof Nisar A Ganie said, " New topics such as disaster management, information technology, bio-chemistry, bio-technology, computer sciences and other topics have been introduced to make students aware of the latest technologies bringing revolution in the whole world." He further said that all the efforts are being done for the up gradation of the level of education in the state and to keep pace with the education level of the Center Board of School Education (CBSE). He said that for developing syllabus and the textual material for these subjects experts were hired and added that the work has been completed. (Academics) BOSE Bashir Ahmed said, " Under the chairmanship of Prof Ganie the BOSE has amended various rules to raise the academic level of the state and to provide corruption free administration in the BOSE." He further added that the BOSE has amended the provision related to the re-evaluation of the evaluated answer sheets. He said that for re-evaluation, the students are being provided with the Xerox copy of the evaluated answer sheets so as to make evaluators accountable and that has raised the credibility of the board. He said that in Kashmir division five subjects have been made compulsory in the 11th class from October 2005 and the same number of subjects will be made compulsory in 12th standard from October 2006 whereas in Jammu division five subjects in 11th standard will be compulsory from April 2006 and for 12th standard five subjects will be compulsory from April 2007. The various regional languages being introduced are Dogri, Bodhi, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Kashmiri, Arabic, Sheena language in Kargil and Gurez, Balti and Pahari and all the textual material for these languages has been developed. http://www.greaterkashmir.com/full_story.asp?
