Guest guest
Maheshwar fort comes alive with marriage after 240 years Maheshwar (MP), Feb 23: The historic Maheshwar fort of the erstwhile Holkar state came alive after around 240 years with the ceremonial marriage of 12th descendent of Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar, Sabrina Sanyogita Raje, and US-based Ari Kanakdari Ellis on the banks of river Narmada here today. The entire town was bubbling with excitement since last seven days after Prince Richard Shivajirao Holkar, bride's father, decided to hold the royal wedding in a contemporary manner abiding by every vedic ritual. Ellis, a Manhattan-based realtor, riding a mare and over 70 of his friends accompanying him amidst heart-throbbing music formed the marriage procession which was welcomed by Richard Holkar and bride's uncle and filmstar Vijendra Ghatge, before vedic rituals began and ceremonies continued till late night. The royal family had been performing religious rituals behind closed doors amidst tight security since last few days, while preparing for this century's first marriage in the Holkar family, besides hosting several cultural programmes for their relatives. The royal family had erected grand tent houses near a temple at Maheshwar to accomodate royal guests, besides employing scores of people to ensure their pleasant stay. As the ceremonies gained momentum in the night, guests were served strictly vegetarian food - an effort to preserve sanctity of the pilgrim spot. http://www.newkerala.com/news2.php?action=fullnews&id=15466
