Guest guest
Palani temple consecration held Palani (TN), April 3: Thousands of devotees offered worship at the Sri Dhandayuthapaniswamy temple, the third abode of Lord Muruga, during the Mahakumbhabhishekam (consecration ceremony) performed today, amidst chanting of Vedic and Tamil hymns. The temple, including the sanctum sanctorum and the Arthamandapam, had been renovated at a cost of Rs 5 crore. The door of the sanctum sanctorum, sides of the entrance to the sanctum sanctorum and roof of Arthamandapam had been gold-plated and the 5,000-year-old 'Navabhashana' idol of Lord Muruga mended with herbs and chemicals. The Mahakumbhabhishekam was performed for the sanctum sanctorum, main golden tower and the towers of the sub-temple simultaneously. Later, the 'Kalasams' (temple's top portion) were decorated with flags, garlands and new clothes. Priests brought the holy water from the Yagasalai in a procession. Special Abhishekams were performed to the processional deity earlier yesterday. As many as 165 Sivacharyas participated in the consecration ceremony and 'panchamritham' (a sweet mixture of banana, honey and ghee), vibudhi and kumkum were distributed to the devotees.
