I feel now that I have a better grip on the subject than I thought I did. >Does anyone here have an experience of burning in the Third Eye area? It >happens to me on occasion -- like right now. It happens during formal Yoga >practice and also at random times. Susan already answered that well, but I thought I'd add something more general about these types of energy sensations. In general, burning or itching or tingling or buzzing all *can* mean that energy is passing through an area that is stronger than that area is accustomed to. When that happens, it is an indication that something else in the system is allowing a greater flow of energy, and now this bit is feeling the extra energy as it flows through. This happens most often as a result of meditation and of healing, but it can also happen when we release an energy block (mental, emotional or physical) through other types of work, such as bodywork or psychological. (Which is also the most frequent cause of 'spontaneous' kundalini rising.) In my experience (which is far from being total knowing!) we may experience the reaction as our subtle and physical bodies develop the capacity to easily handle the increased energy flow. Then the feeling tends to gradually fade out. This fading is not a sign that the energy has stopped - an idea that sometimes worries people. It is simply a sign that your body has become accustomed to the new level of energy and now handles it fluently and regards that level of energy as "normal". And then, after a while, a sensation turns up somewhere else, pointing out a new area of rapid growth. And of course, that is the good thing about these sensations. They tell us where the fastest growth and strengthening is taking place. Unlike ordinary electrical wiring, our subtle energy wiring and nervous systems are strengthened and enhanced by the flow of this energy in reasonable amounts. We can actually take quite a bit of it and benefit from it. At the moment, I'm recovering from a serious illness, during which I came pretty close to death. Since the healing process has become well entrenched, I get occasional buzzing in the first and second chakra, which (I think) probably has to do with the restoration of proper earthing - a kind of a reattachment to and strengthening of my connection with my body and the earth. It was pretty intense at first, but seems to be gradually fading as healing progresses. If anyone else has any insight on that, I'd appreciate it. So, you see, Kathleen, you're far from alone in your weirdness. We who meditate and work with energy other ways all tend to become a little more odd, usually in quite a sane way. Lovely, isn't it?
