This statement triggers many responses in me. I debated about responding to the list or privately or not at all, but decided I needed to air my concern. Anytime I hear someone tell me "The best way..." I tend to cringe. Sometimes the best way for one person is not the best way for another person. I have an easier time if statements such as this are preceded by "In my opinion, the best way..." or even "One good way.." Semantics aside, I am not sure I agree that the focus of Kundalini Yoga and Meditation is to "awaken" kundalini. Perhaps that is what some people use it for. I do not know "historically" what the purpose of the practice was seen as. I think I've seen too many people set out on a path with the intent of awakening kundalini and lose focus of how that integrates into the rest of daily life. My own experience is that I was guided to Kundalini meditation some years after the awakening process, and Kundalini Yoga some time after that. For me, I found it more a way to integrate all the bodies allowing for the free-flow of energy that was already alive and well within me. I do think my concern is more than semantics, but I'm not sure if I expressed it very well. What do other list members think is the "purpose" of Kundalini yoga? Guest guest
Hi Ori Like me, you are writing from your own perspective - unlike me, you made that clear! ;-( Of course I was expressing an opinion - that is all that anyone this side of deity can ever have on issues such as this. Also, you should take my reply in the context of the original message from Tom. I believe that just as you have found Kundalini Yoga the best way to focus and integrate your K energy, others in whom K is not yet awake, can do much to facilitate the process by its diligent application. The purpose of KYoga is not, IMO, to awaken Kundalini, but the awakening is certainly one of its consequences. It should not be viewed as an end, merely as another step on the long road to self discovery. I may have, inadvertently, started a very interesting debate here. Guest guest
In sending this post I must relay my relief at what is mentioned from list member & must commend his response. Also, I have pondered what, in the past WERE changes remedying an "intergender problem" ?? Father vs. Mother etc etc etc Stifled by a caste system of those who are in the "I want to have psychic powers" mode. Is IT (see Martin Buber I and Thou) after all . . .the "Father" of all Yogas (s) Double talk Yoga MEANS union...!!!(we have to start somewhere, I suppose) .......................Titling the" Awakening" "Barking up the wrong Bhodi Tree" or "A Nose under the Circus Tent"|~ | ~ | ~ | ~ |!!! I am afraid it is NOT just semantics. It is punctuation and capitalization and time zone too, I suppose....(how I go on...) Sat Nam ~| ~| Hanuman Himself would laugh. I would also like to know. Guest guest
Hi Ori and All, Serve, love, give, purify, meditate, realize... This is a formula for awakening kundalini given by Swami Sivananda of Rishekesh. Service to others comes first. I think that the Divine will awaken in us whatever we need to be good channels for Its peace and healing in the world. For me, Kundalini Yoga, all Yoga, is about being peaceful, easeful, useful in this world. This is also the teaching of my Yoga teacher, Swami Satchidananda. Thanks for your great question.
