Guest guest
Dear Friends, SAT KRIYA I was asked to outline one of the original kriyas that Yogi Bhajan taught. At that time it might have been referred to the as "the ego eradicator." There is another exercise that has since taken on that name. But whatever designation we give to this exercise, Sat Kriya is still one of the fundamental Kundalini yoga exercises. It is recommended to practice it daily for at least 3 minutes. I have practiced this kriya a lot over the years and there was a time I did it for 11 minutes each day and even 31 mintues. As there are so many exercises and meditations, I have not incorporated it in my daily practice for a while. When I was asked this question, I decided to do it for 3 minutes at the end of my morning Sadhana. I fell in love again with Sat Kriya!. Even 3 minutes is a pleasure. Today I endulged for 5 minutes. BENEFITS Sat Kriya sets the navel point, distributes the energy along the spine and raises the energy up the spine. Sat Kriya strengthens the entire sexual system, stimulates the natural flow of sexual and kundalini energy and sets the navel point. SAT NAM Sat means the truth. Nam calls upon or names the truth. This mantra also means "Truth is my identity." A good affirmation to start with. :+) DESCRIPTION Below is a description of how to do it. We are working on getting images scanned and will include the image on our website in the future. Sit on your heels and stretch your arms over your head, elbows hugging the ears. fingers intelocked, index fingers extended straight up. Chant "Sat Nam" in a consistant rhythm about 4-5 times per 10 seconds. Chant SAT from the navel, pulling the navel toward the spine. Chant NAM while relaxing the belly. The emphasis is on pulling the navel in. The hips and spine do not flex. The only motion is the slight up and down of the chest and arms as the muscles and energy is pulled up and then released down. Create a rhythmic wavelike motion internally. The mantra is short and precise. Start with 3 minutes and work up to 11 (or 31) minutes per day. To end--Inhale deep, hold, pull in the navel, pull the rootlock by gently tightening the muscles at the base of the spine and the sex organ. Allow the energy to move up the spine and out through the top of your head. Exhale powerfully. Repeat 2-3 more times. Relax for 3-5 minutes or meditate. Do not jump up immediately afterwards. Try it and see what it does for you! And let us know! Sat Nam! Rattana
