Guest guest
Blessed Be and SatNam- I recently started reading "Kundalini Yoga The Flow of Eternal Power". I began doing some of the initial exercises, but I had extreme difficulty because of breathing problems- when I sit so straight and inhale through my nose, my lungs fill to maybe 1/3 capacity- or, at least, that's what it feels like. I grew up with horrible asthma, in and out of ERs and on meds from age three until I was 26 or so- I am now 29. I healed my asthma, and am no longer on meds of any kind, but I have a long way to go as far as really being physicaaly healthy- even though I am healthier than I have ever been. My question to the listers is, does anyone know of any *simple* breathing exercises that might help me increase my lung capacity? I know that continuing to do the exercises in the book will probably help, but if anyone has any other simple, untaxing exercises for the lungs, please share them with me. It's very frustrating to have my deep inhales last ony a few seconds, and the pain involved (physical and emotional) makes it very difficult to keep going. In the meantime, I think I'd better start doing heart chakra work again.... Thank you in advance- KashKona "You are not a human being having a spiritual experience; you are a spiritual being having a human experience." *********************************** chickclick.com http://www.chickclick.com girl sites that don't fake it. http://www.chickmail.com sign up for your free email. ***********************************

We gently practice to lengthen our breath. You might try breathing from your belly. You can do this lying on your back and placing your hands on your belly. Let your inhale expand your belly and lift your hands. The exhale brings the belly down. This is relaxing and energizing. Also get to know your breath by simply being with it and your body and you breath. Do nothing to change the breath, just be with what is happening. By the way, the breath and the lungs are related to grief and the heart chakra. There is a good book on the breath "The Breathing Book" by Donna Farhi. And above all enjoy the adventure. Guest guest
--- "You are not a human being having a spiritual experience; you are a spiritual being having a human experience." Rattana- Thank you for the advice. I will use it. I have been doing chakra work for about four years. I am grateful that I have managed to heal my own asthma, something most doctors and asthma sufferers usually don't want to believe. Chakra work has been quite the life saver for me. I also suffer from migraines, and as much as I know the psycho/spiritual reasons for them, I haven't had the success in healing them as I have with my asthma issues. I am hoping that KY will help me get to the bottom of it, and to heal it once and for all. I want to thank you for pointing out the grief issue of the heart chakra. It's been quite a house cleaning. I have learned a few techniques for helping my heart chakra, and I have felt my breathing become easier- I can take stairs without getting short of breath, I can run. And since thinking about buying the book you recommended practically gave me a panic, I think I'll pick that up, too. Here's to healing! Guest guest
Dear KashKona, I think your statement "It has been quite a house cleaning." summarizes an important part of our journey. The good news is that we are empowered, liberated and feel more and more alive in the process. We always have to face the emotional issues that lurk behind the physical symptoms. By the way "Anatomy of the Spirit" by Caroline Myss links emotional issues with physical dis-ease and the chakras. It is truly a wonderful book. Blessings on your healing journey.
