Guest guest
Dear listers- I have a question. I have suffered from migraines for ten years, and have had some success in lowering the frequency and the intensity of them. However, since beginning KY exercises, even the relatively few I have done, the few migraines I have had have been more intense, and centered in my third eye, except for the last one which was painful in my third eye and crown chakras. It honestly felt as if someone was twisting a knife through my head- a knife made of energy, but still a knife. I felt it straight through my forehead to the back of my skull. That was the worst migraine I have ever had, and I lost a few hours of memory that day. Any ideas as to what in KY might help or be a cause of such a thing? Any suggestions are welcome. Thank You- KashKona --- "Nothin' says lovin' like somethin' from the coven!" *********************************** chickclick.com http://www.chickclick.com girl sites that don't fake it. http://www.chickmail.com sign up for your free email. ***********************************
Guest guest
Hello. First of all I would like to introduce myself. My name is Devon and I just recently d to this list. I am an avid practitioner of yoga and meditation, although new to the practice of Kundalini. Perhaps more on my history later. I mostly wanted to respond to KashKona's question about migraines. I am no expert on Kundalini by any stretch but I have been practicing Traditional and Qigong for about seven years now. It is generally my experience that migraines are the result of a major obstruction of energy somewhere in the body. The fact that KY can make them worse therefore comes as no surprise. In terms of technique I have nothing to say but I can suggest massaging your feet especially on the top between the first and second metatarsals and at the ball underneath. Also you might consider seeing an acupuncturist to better assess the problem. Anyhow that is my two cents worth (probably more than you wanted). Good luck and take care. Yours in the Dharma, Devon
Guest guest
--- Thank you very much, Devon. I have done a lot of energy work that has helped my migraines somewhat. I have thought it was obstructed energy, and at times it has felt like misplaced root energy. Forcing the energy back to my root helped those particular migraines. However, these are the first times I have ever felt the pain so precisely in the centers of any chakra. I spent most of the day today with a pain in my crown chakra, so I will take your advice about the feet. Focusing on my feet has helped certain migraines before, but it seems each time I find something that helps, the migraines change. I imagine that eventually, that doing KY will help me to correct the problem. I hope!! Thanks and SatNam- KashKona "Nothin' says lovin' like somethin' from the coven!" Guest guest
There are many on this list more experienced than I; however, it sounds like you have an "block" in the area and the energy is trying to force its way through. I would back off a little, take things more slowly, and try to release the block a little bit at a time. There are techniques for this -- focused meditation, accupressure points, etc. Work on grounding for awhile. Guest guest
Sat Nam, Try doing spinal grinds, leg stretches and any other exercise where you bring your attention to the sensations in your lower body. Your energy is concentrated in your head and needs to be distributed to your lower body. Do not meditate at your third eye. Meditate at your navel, pul the root lock, feel your feet, legs, breath in the belly. I hope this will help. Lets us know. Seems to be alot of us eager to help you find a solution. Guest guest
Hello listers- Yes, I very much appreciate all the responses I've received from this very caring group of listers. I will try the exercises you suggested- but what is a spinal grind? Incidentally, I've not done any KY for three days, and no migraines- just a lttle pain yesterday. It's just a temporary solution, and I am not giving up KY. I just had to stop for awhile. Now, I jusy have to get past the fear of more pain, with Kali's help, and give it another go, with all your suggestions in tow. Thank you all again. Blessed Be and SatNam- KashKona Nothin' says lovin' like somethin' from the coven. Guest guest
Dear KashKona, Spinal grinds are illustrated and explained on our new website. Click on Intrto KY and then then the Set for the Spine. Kundalini yoga raises the energy up the spine, so it is not surprising that its practice would aggrevate your migraines until the original block of energy is dealt with. All the grounding ideas sound good and then when you are ready practicing KY in a way that you can stay grounded. The accupunture sounds like a great idea. Let us know what works and good luck. Guest guest
and now on to KashKona's question about migraines. KashKona, if you came in to me for shiatsu or yoga instruction (mind you, I haven't a clue if anything I do would be considered classic KY. I'm here to learn what is.) even though I don't trust allopathics, I'd ask you if you've consulted one. Have your migraines been diagnosed as such? recently? Devon suggested you might consider seeing an acupuncturist but in the mean time you could see if "massaging your feet especially on the top between the first and second metatarsals and at the ball underneath" gives you any relief. ummm ... Devon, on the top of the foot are you referring to Liver 2 (morning between) or 2 cun up from there, Liver 3 (great surge) which is what gets used for headaches if the liver is involved? and "at the ball underneath", is it Kidney 1 (bubbling spring) you suggest? I'm curious. If we were treating symptoms, there are lots of tsubos that could be matched up. Large Intestine 4 (meeting mountains) never fails to get a mention. (Probably because people slowly poison themselves with constipation.) KashKona, if you do decide to see an acupuncturist, I'd suggest you find one who doesn't focus on symptoms and gives attention to your over all energetic balance. What Tsubos actually get used would be a reflection of the diagnosis. How fascinating if you were to do KY during the diagnosis so the Doctor could interpret your energy workings in action. Ahhhhh ... but here's another twist to the concept. Wouldn't a TCM trained acupuncturist would be working with Tsubos that are on the meridians we'd find about the body's surface. Doesn't yoga address the nadis deep in the body? Granted, when it all boils down, its only one big channel. But if we're tracking stagnations in the various bits of it ... hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Its late. Its Beltain. Its time for me to blow out the candles and go to bed. Blessed Be, Penel

Have your migraines >been diagnosed as such? >recently? Hello and Blessed Beltane- Yes, my migraines have been diagnosed by allopathic doctors. Over ten years ago in an ER, and I've been 'diagnosed' by others over the years, and recently. I prefer not to see allopaths. It's because of a lifetime of dealing with doctors, and healing my asthma and most of my allergies only after I stopped listening to them. I just don't think that a lot of them time they really know what they're talking about, since they only work with the physical causes of illness. They have their time and place (trauma centers, for one, need allopaths). Also, in the past, I've been able to take an allopath's diagnosis of respiratory infections or muscle pulls, and cure myself with herbs, homeopathy and energy work, instead of using their 'medicines'. This is what I do- I'm not recommending that everyone throw away their medicines- we all have to do what's right for us. My migraine increase is root chakra related, and so working from that I have been able to at least not get them so often, and they haven't lasted as long. Their increase coincided with beginning KY, a KY root lock, and within an increase in protein intake, since I subconciously avoided proteins for awhile, resulting in fatigue, low blood sugar, blah blah blah- proteins set my migraines off, which makes sense because proteins are a root chakra substance. Of course, that was silly, because *not* eating right also gives me migraines. So no more root lock for me until I get this thing taken care of. My proteins however, will remain balanced. The key is balance. It's getting better. One of the tricks I use to prevent a migraine is to fluctuate the vibration of my root chakra energy the minute I feel the pain and/or nausea coming on. I can also do this if I just get the 'cobwebs' in my field of vision that signify a migraine is on the way. This has prevented them over the last week, until yesterday. Beltane's energy, plus a full moon and ovulation sort blew my energy out of the water. My Beltane ritual helped and this morning I had no migraine. I will continue the work. It took years to conquer asthma, but I did it. I will conquer these migraines, too. As the Nin say, "Persevere". Guest guest
Dear Rattana, Thank you for a such quick reply! What I am quite curious to know is that is it possible to awaken kundalini by drinking herbal teas? Sounds funny, but before my kundalini has awakened I had drank a lot of "yogi tea"-it is made in Hamburg and include just spices, so it probably helped to clear energy channels and clear the path a bit. Also we had a guy who had stayed with us for awhile and who might be kundalini awakened, I am still not very sure about it; if it is the case, why my husbund`s kundalini is still sleeping- I have heard that if you stay with an awakened person for while your kundalini might awaken too... Thank you for reading it! Love, Annushka

Guest guest
Dear Annushka, Yogi tea does help to clear your energy channels and being around awakened people does help to wake you up, but these are not the only factors.
