Guest guest
Hello, I have a few questions. I an very new to yoga, expecially this form. I have for some time now practiced meditation, usually creative visualization. Anyways, I was wondering why it is that I seem to 'nod off'. While I am deep in meditation I am BY FAR sleepy, if anything I feel strangely energized. I've been told by an instructor that I fall into trance, or self hypnosis. I don't quite understand this as I didn't get a chance to ask her what to do in these instances. Is there a way that I can 'become somewhat conscious' in these trance episodes? Anyone here familiar with self hypnosis? This is very easy for me to do, after about a minute or two of deep breathing...but if I can not benifit from it I would like to stop doing it...but how? Another question...What is the difference between Transcendal <sp> Meditation (or TM) and just your regular meditaion? Thank-you in advance for any help :-) Have a nice day! Guest guest
DEar Kathy, Sat Nam, To stay conscious you have to stay in your body. Feel the sensations in your body and keep in touch with what you are feeling. Our programed response to deep relaxation which is often accomplished in meditation is to nod out and fall asleep. This is a stage that many of us go through. The best way I have found through it is to be very present to body, so that I stay here. Ask your teacher what to do too. TM is a silent mantra meditation. It cost money to get your mantra and it is secret. KY meditations involve many forms of mediatiion including silent and chanted mantras. None of these are secret. And you can get all you want for the price of a book, a yoga class, a glance at a website, or a friend who will teach you. Try out the different forms and see what suits you best and gives you the best results. The journey is fun.
