Guest guest
Hello to all. I, too, am a teacher of this wonderful discipline! I have a new student in my summer class who is pregnant and am looking for some advice. I know that there are certain things that she should not be doing such as Breath of Fire and Sat Kriya. Is there anything else that I should be keeping her away from and also any suggestions on what would be best for her at this time. She is about 5 months along. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestion. Sat Nam Devta Kaur
Guest guest
Sat Nam, Definitely no navel exercises for women over 3 months pregnant. But she does need to do squats (which she might not like to do, but will be grateful for later). There is a whole set of exercises for prenant women, but I don't have it at the moment. Ask around, it should be pretty easy to come by. Sat Nam, Gururattan "RAttana" - <MorgaineS <Kundaliniyoga > Wednesday, July 21, 1999 12:35 PM Re: Teaching Advice > MorgaineS > > Hello to all. Guest guest
I happened to pick up an issue of "Fit Pregnancy" magazine (fall '97)drawn by the cover-girl....it was Gena Lee Nolin, who I haden't seen on Baywatch, but whose mother I did meet once at Summer Solstice. In this mag. there is an article from mother-to-be-Gena Lee about the yoga she was doing while pregnant. She was told to avoid: overstretching, supine positions in the 2nd half of pregnancy, and inverted poses such as headstands and shoulder stands. Guest guest
Bless you for asking, rather than possibly causing harm to your pregnant student and her child. Guest guest
Dear Keith, This is a response to your concern that teachers should be enlightened before being teachers. I think that is a great idea! But most of us aren't there yet. And the irony of it all is that if we waited until we were enlightened, we would never achieve this goal. It is in experiencing life, sharing with others, opening our hearts and realizing that we share a common bond in our humaness and in our infinity that we move towards enlightenment. In very mundane ways we overcome our barriers that preclude our inner peace. Daring to ask others for help connects us to each other and helps us release the fear that gets in the way of our connection to Spirit. As we have seen on this list, it also circulates very useful information. Those few realized beings that I have met and read about never claim to know everything. And what is more interesting is that they don't want to. In all the spiritual paths there is a teaching that is summarized as "Knowing is the booby prize. You can learn and learn and learn and still not be enlightened. Because enlightenment comes from an experience that is beyond the mind." Our goal is to train ourselves to tune into and enjoy this cosmic experience in our human body and psyche. This is our goal in the Kundalilni Yoga Training that we are offering. I hope you will join us. None of us humans are perfect. If we were, we wouldn't be here. I have a little sign on my desk, "Be kind to everyone. We all have our own struggles." May we bless each other and travel together toward the light, Sat Nam, Rattana :+)

Guest guest
I would like to thank those of you who offered words of support and encouragement after I asked for some teaching advice for a pregnant student. I've often heard the saying "be careful what you ask for....." and this was a prime example. I will continue to teach, as it is what I love. The words received from one person will not deter me from living A good life, as someone on the list mentioned....and to me, teaching and spreading the word of Kundalini Yoga is living what I believe. To those who sent the aforementioned advice, I thank you also. While I was in teacher training, one of the main topics that was stressed was to know that even if you are a teacher, you are also a student; the journey to enlightenment is a long one. In response to the individual's posting that started this, I say to him......There is no need for you to apologize to me. You spoke words that you felt were true.....for you. I have been reading the book "The Teachings of Yogi Bhanjan and I daresay that he would disagree with you. You are on your path and I am on mine.....and I choose that mine be filled with the calmness, peace and serenity that I have found in myself and in others who practice and believe in Kundalini Yoga. By your posting, it would appear that your path lies elsewhere. I do not wish you any harm, but some peace and an end to the anger in your life that was so clearly apparent. Sat Nam!
