Guest guest
Hi everyone, I just joined the list, but haven't been able to participate much because I'm on the road on business quite a bit. BUT, I've received some encouraging and inspiring words from Gordon, and I think that I'll gain a lot of insight from this list (even if I spend most of the time simply "lurking.") I'm looking for an additional alternative to my "usual" routine of (boring) working out at the gym. I've taken some yoga classes over the years, but I just can't seem to get myself into it on a consistent basis. I'm a workaholic, and I do not allow myself the time or energy for "other" things. I've taken my body for granted -- I used to work out seven days a week, but for the last two years I'm lucky if I get to the gym twice a week. I'm bored, and not motivated. SO, here I am. I'm looking for some inspiration. Do most of you do some form of yoga on a consistent basis? Do you find that it keeps you in better shape? Do you feel better, both physically and mentally/emotionally? Also -- do you feel that Kundalini Yoga is a good "path" to take in order to help "find oneself," or even more importantly, to become more "grounded"? I live my life in a constant "identity crises," by identifying myself by what I do for a living, my performance at work, and how other's perceive my performance. I know that this needs to change. Any suggestions? Sorry to throw all of this out in my "introduction" letter. I just like to get right to the point. I'm looking forward to learning a lot from all of you, and I hope that I can contribute some inspiration to you as well. All my best, Isis PS -- If any of you live in or near NYC, can you recommend some yoga classes that may work well for me, based on the info that I just gave you? Thanks again! Guest guest
Dear Isis: welcome to the list, just by showing up and lurking you will learn much here. Working out at the gym is fine when young, but that depends on how you work out. Many twenty-somethings injure themselves for life in gyms, thinking all the time that they have discovered the fountain of youth. My teacher told me all about this. In general, yoga is a softer way that respects one's body, and kundalini yoga is the path that many of us have found. Please don't expect to experience the same types of experiences you found in the gym, for yoga is a different way. >Also -- do you feel that Kundalini Yoga is a good "path" to take in order to >help "find oneself," or even more importantly, to become more "grounded"? I >live my life in a constant "identity crises," by identifying myself by what I >do for a living, my performance at work, and how other's perceive my >performance. I know that this needs to change. You've provided your own answers. Getting caught up in the whirl of daily living often makes you lose sight of yourself. Getting grounded takes the effort of getting off that treadmill and paying attention to your unconscious mind and your body. as Sue says, the answers are in front of you. Are you truly paying attention? Curious about your name, any relation to the Dylan song of that time? "I married Isis on the 5th day of May,... Guest guest
For Isis1976: For a physically challenging yoga class in NYC try Beryl Bender Birch. She teaches both uptown and downtown. Website power-yoga.com has the schedule. Good Luck MaryEllen
Guest guest
Hi MaryEllen Welcome to Kundalini Yoga. I hope you enjoy your time here with us and learn from this list. I would point out one thing to you - this list is a forum in which to discuss Kundalini Yoga, the most powerful and effective form of yoga on the planet - for more information about this, check out our website - address in this message trailer. Postings about Power Yoga classes are off-topic, although if you want to start a thread comparing the two forms of yoga then I would have no problems with that. Sat Nam!
