Guest guest
Could anyone explain the difference between Breath of Fire and Bastrika breath? I have been reading the book" KUNDALINI YOGA The Flow of Eternal Power" and following instructions on the BF, but eventually when practicing I end up breathing Bastrika Pranayam. Kundalini Yoga aroused my interest. I have been practicing Yoga for 6 years now, but not until recently I experienced the very intimate connection with my own field of energy. Being an overachiever most of my life, the connection to my inner self was not accessed for the lack of body-mind-breath connectedness. I would like to learn BF in a correct way and also would appreciate explanation between these two Pranayam. Thank you...Eva...#8211 ..... Guest guest
>evicka <evicka > > >Could anyone explain the difference between Breath of Fire and Bastrika breath? The technique for Bhastrika (sanskrit for bellows) is as follows: Inhale deeply through the nostrils in preparation. Begin bhastrika by exhaling somewhat forcefully through contraction of the abdominal muscles. The navel moves towards the spine. Next, inhale, again somewhat forcefully, by contracting the diaphragm. The navel moves away from the spine. This is one round. Continue coordinating the contraction of the abdominal muscles with the contraction of the diaphragm fairly quickly and vigorously. Attempt to make the force of the inhalation and exhalation roughly equal. Finish with a few deep, full breaths. In Breath of Fire (Kapalabhati) all of the above holds true except that the focus is on the exhalation only. As in Bhastrika exhalation is caused by a forceful contraction of the abdominal muscles. Inhalation, though, is passive. The abdominal muscles are simply allowed to relax causing air to flow automatically into the lungs. I hope this helps! Guest guest
>"Rattana Khalsa" <rattanak > >Dear Evicka, > >Please explain what is Bastrika breath? If you could explain this then I >would do my best to explain the difference between Breath of Fire and >Bastrika breath. My understanding of Bastrika of Bellows breath is as follows: Ratio of Inhalations and Exhalations is 1:1 Bastrika breath is done in rapid succession and moves primarily diaphragm muscle which is being freed from habitual holding or non-movement. Kapalabhati Pranayam or Shinning of the scull breath is done by forcefull Exhalations and no close attention payed to Inhalations. Done in fast pace, moving the diaphragm muscle in and out. Close attention is payed to the movement of diaphragm exclusively. For beginners also suggested for easier performance and comprehension to utter the sound "K". I am getting a bit confused, as one respond to my question was referring to Breath of Fire as Kapalabhati breath. My understanding was, that these two breathing techniques are different. Thank you for clarifying this for me. Sat Nam Eva ..... Health is wealth, and piece of mind is happiness....[
