Sat Nam,

Breath of Fire is the same as bellow breath, but not the same as kapalabhati

breath. In breath of fire or bellow breath the inhale and the exhale are

the same length. In kapalabhati breath the exhale is longer than the

inhale. In BF the diaphram rises on the exhale as the air is forced out.

Kap breath emphasizes the navel center itself.

The navel center is actually 2-3 inches below the umbilical navel. It is

the don tien in the martial arts. It is this point that is the focus of the

exhale. On the exhale the don tien or navel center is pulled in and the

diaphram muscles are pulled in and up. On the exhale relax the abdominal

muscles.

Keep the face relaxed. No angry faces. The exhale is emphasized although

the same length as the inhale. There can be 1-3 breaths per second. It is

a rapid pumping motion.

You can check and see if your navel is set, by feeling a pulse at the

umbilicus, but the breath itself is initiated below the navel.

You will feel a heat in the spine opposite this point and a distinct

sensation of a confluence of energy in the front and inside the body.

I agree it is confusing to call this the navel center and have it located

below the navel. Does anyone have any ideas on another name? Maybe we

should just use don tien as they do in the martial arts.

TIP- Initiate all breathing and bending (in yoga and daily life) from the

don tien below the navel. And then let us know what you experience.

Sat Nam,
