Guest guest
I really enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning. I am wondering how faithfully you all out there follow no caffeine/no sugar diet. Does it really have a big impact on your energy and getting closer to enlightenment? i really love my coffee!! Guest guest
Jeanette, Oh the caffeine, I too love it so but it may just be alot of habit. In the 30 yrs that I have been focusing on enlightenment from various angles caffeine has been the one hardest thing to give up. There is something so satisfying about it; yes it is additive but it is more than just that. I have given up nearly everything at one time or another to increase my spirituality and to become more enlightened but caffeine has been the hardest. I did fiannally give it up for a period of time by drinking Yogi tea instead. Yogi tea satisfies me even more but the down side is you have to make it and no matter how much you make you do run out. If you are watching your weight Yogi tea has more calories in it than a cup of black coffee. And it is not available in restraunts or coffee houses. You can get Chai at coffee house (many) but it is not as good as Yogi tea (good for you or taste wise) but it is better than coffee. I like it but not all the time it seems a little too sweet sometimes. I love my coffee too. I was doing so well a few years back until my best friend told me about Star Bucks frapaccino's. One taste and I was lost. She is not only a yogi, a kundalini instructor but she is a natural path MD. That is her weakness too even though she is sooooooooo diet and nutrition conscious. I am a RN and I did hear on a news broadcast that caffeine is good for the memory and increases alertness. It is suspose to increase the number of dendrites (I beleave) in the brain to process and receive information. It could be just propaganda to increase coffee sales, but.... I do know that caffeine does affect the nervous system to various degrees depending on the person. There is already enough stress, in my world at least. Also there is a new book out about blood type and diet that is very good. Eat right 4 your type, is the title (don't remember the author, I have the book somewhere). It says that if you are a type O blood type that you can't drink coffee because you already have too much stomach acid but you must have some meat. Type A blood types need 2-3 cups of coffee a day because of not having enough stomach acid and they are the natural vegetarians but can have limited amounts of chicken and fish. Now a type B blood type has the greatest freedom with thier diet. Hope that this helps. I don't have the answer and would also like further feedback. Guest guest
Interesting subject If you get the author of the book on diet and blood type, pls post it. Sounds very interesting. I also share this addiction. I am not planning on giving it up! Once when I lived among the sikhs at the time I started I was drinking, smoking marijuana, both to excess and of course drinking coffee. I gave up, as agreed - liquor, drugs, cheese, sex, meat, and even caffeine. )for 3 months) I felt real good. After I left, one day a housemate was drinking coffee and I decided to have one cup... well you can imagine the rest of the story. Right now I drink two cups a day usually. And on a good day, if I can make it one cup instead of two, I find that makes a BIG difference in my day - yes, perhaps a little less alert, but also much calmer. I agree with the post about Yogi Tea, and it has motivated me to get the ingredients and make some. Yes it is some trouble and time to make it but it is delicious and it gives me the boost of caffeine without setting my teeth on edge as caffein can do. Guest guest
Ellen, I am proud of you for planning to give coffee up. 1-2 cups a day is not bad. You should not have much if any withdrawl from that. Found that book: 4 Blood Types, 4 Diets EAT RIGHT 4 YOUR TYPE The Individualized Diet Solution to Staying Healthy, Living Longeer & Achieving Your Ideal Weight by Dr.Peter J.D'Adamo with Catherine Whitney Alot of the Yogi's were familiar with it when I was in New Mexico for Summer Solstice. The best part about the book is it goes into detail of which health conditions that tend to plague various blood types and how you can avoid them by eating and approiate diet for your blood type. My husband read this book and it really felt right to him. I did not even have to encourage him. He went on the diet for B blood type and his energy really increased and he lost his 'budha' belly that he has never been able to lose no matter how much he had exercised or how much weight he had lost. That proved the point of bad food combinations and food allergies to me. That bloating has to be from the inflamation of the intestines from food intalerances. I enevy your 3 month experience living among the sikhs! Hope that this helps. Guest guest
At the expense of sounding pompous, I never ingest caffiene, including the caffiene contained in chocolate. Even the beloved chocolate contains the much talked about caffiene. Choices, choices. Brightest Blessings, Adam
Guest guest
I needed to add some things to my earlier reply on caffiene. In quantity, caffiene can usurp the intake of vitamins and minerals, it can also reduce the immunes systems ability to prevent and ward off illness. It does the lining to the digestive system no good, and creates moodiness unless it is ingested (after it has become an addition). I used to drink it in copious amounts when I was in the military. Since I have been out, (nearly 5 years)I haven't drank coffee. I use this as a spiritual discipline and because I know the effects of the drink on the body. Maybe of interesting note, the Sufis, who are an intensely spiritual tradition, drink coffee with no ill effects toward their spiritual enlightenment. It's a matter of choice. Brightest Blessings, Adam
Guest guest
Thanks Adam that is very complete, I conveniently forgot some of that. If does give you extra incentive. Green tea here I come. Thanks Sandy P.S. Nice to know about the Sufis; I love looking at both sides like that and then as you said make up my own mind. Guest guest
Thank God there's an addiction I haven't got. (coffee) I just don't like the taste. Wish I could say the same about cigarettes and alcohol. Yogis would say "be with cigarettes and alcohol 100%". (And make yourself sick I suppose.)
