Guest guest
Dear Sandy, I have been enjoying the coffee discussion. Seems like most of the points have been covered. Thanks for finding the yogi tea recipee. I just put in a bunch of the spices as I know the proportions intuitively now. The tea bag is supposed to be removed in 2 minutes. That avoids some of the acid from leaking in. Forget the name of the acid. I leave out the tea bag. And thanks for adding the other dairy substitutes. I pulverize my spices in a small coffee grinder which I call my nut grinder since I don't drink coffee. Makes the tea strong which I like. Peel the ginger or the tea will be cloudy. I often use dry ginger. It is easier. The cloves are suppposed to go in first when the water is boiling, then add the other spices after about 1 minute. I don't like the clove taste. It is bitter if there is too much. So go light on the cloves. GINGER TEA Ginger tea is also a stimulating tea. Nothing like caffine I am sure but gives a pick up and prevents and helps heal colds and flu. Just boil fresh or dried ginger for 15 to 20 minutes and drink alone, with lemon or any milk substitute. The dried ginger is the best to warm the inside of the body, ie. for colds and flu. Also liquid ginger in Vit C adds some pep and aids the digestion. Sat Nam, RAttana Sat Nam, RAttana Yogi Tea is in several of Yogi Bhajan's books and cookbooks. The cook > book that I normally use is somewhere........... but I found this receipe in > The Ancient Art of Self-Healing on page 126: start with 10 oz water per > cup and brew at least 4 cups at a time (I make up to 6-8 qts. and have the > amount all fiqured but I am not sure at this moment where that certian book > is) 3 cloves, 4 green cardamon pods (crushed), 4 peppercorns, 1/2 stick > cinnamon, 1 slice ginger root (fresh) and boil 10-15 min., then add 1/4 > teaspoon of black tea (can be omitted it; it does have caffeine), after 2 > min add 1/2 cup of milk per cup of liquid (or soy milk or goats milk). Guest guest
Hi Guys, I tried Yogi Tea this morning. For me I think I will cut down on the milk I don't take dairy often) and add a little more tea. I was thinking of making the tea without the milk and pouring it over ice, then add a splash of sweetened condensed milk lightly on the top. Of course, I could be ruining the benefits by doing it this way, but you know how we are in California; we just can't leave a recipe alone. Guest guest
Rattana Khalsa, The acids in tea are called tannins, I think. Tip - I have much more luck with ginger when it is frozen. I know this probably goes against a raw foods regimen, but when it is solid, it is much easier to grate and a sharp knife can shave it into nearly transparent slices. It also keeps longer. On an unrelated note, all this very frank and revelatory discussion recently is tempting me to finally make a leap of faith, but I am unsure if this this is the appropriate forum. One concern: I am loosely affiliated with a regular KY yoga class at my university taught by a lifelong devotee of Yogi Bhajan. Yet, I still wrestle with the grave temptation of the material world. I worry that I may be fouling the atmosphere for the others there who have more faith. I try to be positive and light but it seems that maybe I abuse the priviledge. Next issue: How can I liberate myself from a bad mantra? God Bless You All, Chris

Guest guest
RAttana I wish I could go! But I live near San Francisco and San Diego is what? 500 miles away or so. So far, all the information I have about K came from one book and what little I can find on the Internet. I really don't think that all my spiritual growth can be gleaned strictly from books or video tapes. Let me know if you happen to come to the bay area with a workshop or two. Good tip. I also put fresh ginger in the food processor or with a bit of water in the blender. Fine for yogi tea or soup like that.
