Christmas

 

 

 

Is it the snow or bitter cold

 

That mantels softly to enfold

 

In sleepy hush the earth below

 

Is it the crush and rush to buy

 

The perfect gift for you or I

 

As we dart from car to mall

 

Do we consider to drop the dither

 

The stress and mess as we fly

 

In search of symbols money

 

Just cannot buy

 

And cannot be found

 

Within concrete caroled halls.

 

What is so inadequate

 

And cannot speak

 

The true sense of what we seek

 

The boxy glitter

 

The Ribboned Gifts

 

Momentarily gleam

 

Beneath our trees.

 

We sit on Santa’s knee

 

And ask to see our hearts desire

 

We were so good and do deserve

 

More than Coal or wood.

 

This one-day we can accept

 

The gifts without reserve

 

To touch and feel

 

Some silk or bit of joy

 

Within our hearts.

 

The satisfaction sought

 

Anticipated

 

So often falling short

 

Of dreams created.

 

That we yearn for every day

 

And know are there

 

But cannot find the time to spare.

 

To go within, or hold a hand,

 

To kiss a tear

 

To gift our hearts

 

The rest of the year.
